STI Advice?
I'm on the verge of going out and buying an 03 STI TypeUk with the PPP. My current car is a Volvo C70 T5 which has been the most reliable car i've ever owned. I've never had an Impreza before and i'm just a bit worried about how reliable i can expect it to be? I do 70 miles a day commuting which is mostly motorway and off peak, so there is no traffic. Should i expect problems or is this model of Scooby pretty reliable?

You speak of the exact same model that i have recently sold
In a nutshell i enjoyed total reliability, however i only covered around 6k a year.
The main thing you will notice is the hit your wallet will take as the car must run on super unleaded ie Shell V Power. Fuel consumption can take the pi** when you give it some.
If looked after they will run for as long as any other car.
Make sure the car you go for has a full Subaru or Subaru specialist service history, a warranty is also desirable just in case.
I would recommend you test drive one as they aren't the most comfortable cars.
There are other negatives mainly high theft risk and ***** always wanting a race.
Hope this helps.
Nik.

My 03STi is remapped and is my every day ride and used on track. Pretty well bomb proof. Not let me down in 46k miles so far.
Only probs I've had are a rear wheel bearing (just bad luck) and the rear struts noisy (surprise, now replaced with ASTs).
Biggest problem I've had is woeful dealer performance fitting Prodrive kits and thats not the car's fault.

I do 100 miles per day and for that reason bought a vRS to commute. The STi would just be too expensive.
Make sure you have a full service history and all the stamps. Ask if the struts have been changed under warranty, as these are a known problem. (Clonking).

Had my03sti ppp since new and done 36k now, totally reliable and a good very fast family saloon.
Only problem was the knocking rear struts, but days of chelmsford replaced these with the new design struts and it's been fine for 2 years now.
I would say that these are a good buy now.

Cheers for the advice guys! Looks like i'll be a Scooby owner in the very near future. The fuel isn't that big a deal, it currently costs me just over £50 a week in the T5, so an extra fiver wont break the bank! When these cars go up for sale they don't tend to hang about, i've arranged to go and see 2 and each time i've had a call to say they've been sold before i've arrived. I've been running vehicle checks before going to view and there was one guy that told me his car was immaculate, never been damaged, full history etc. I ran a check and there was still finance owed and it was CATD repaired, i phoned him back and he denied knowing anything about it. A few dodgy folk out there!!
