Any reason to change wiring for AVCS system?

Any reason to change wiring for AVCS system?
I have another set of 2 wires replacing the standard ones for the AVCS system on the STi and trying to work out why?
I've had the ECU plugged into a laptop which showed an error on the AVCS banks so looked into it. Someone has cut the standard wires and replaced them, they join both sides and then go into the loom by the battery!
Before I peiece together the old wires I wanted to ask if anyone know a modification that would require this? It's wierd!
