I know that I've been 'out of circulation' for a while.....
Lost my beloved P1 etc... drive a poor VW
Just wanted to know how people felt about the souped up/MAX powered cars that are (seemingly, increasingly on the scene)......
They infruriate me - what utter rubbish they are - if you want a performance/good lucking car buy a Scooby or a Porsche (a soft spot for me!).....
How does everyone else feel ......... I want to share my stress....!
Feeling like striking back by buying a seecondhand scooby in the near future
Cheers,
Gastro

well, I've taken a Fiesta si and added some bigger alloys,a spoiler, different light clusters and some ICE. Does this make me a Max power boy? I sincerely hope not! I've modded my car cos I want to, not because other folk may like it.
Besides, how many peeps on here have changed their scoobs? Are they mp boys?

mmmmmmm Well glad to hear that it has made you happy
My philosophy has always been 'tasteful' or 'purposeful' mod's.....
(I think I have seen pic's of your car before )
Perhaps its the mentality of some of the mod's I've been exposed to...?? Or perhaps the mentality of some of the people....?
Just grumbling.......

I think that people on this board should have some ****ing respect for other car enthusiasts that do not have the finances to buy an expensive sports car and make do with what they can afford.
Buy a scooby or a porsche? Here's 50 pence, go buy a clue.

I'm deffo a max power fella.
Huge wheels, wing and fekoff loud neighbour hostile zorst...cannot be qualified in any other way than Max P now can it?
I love it.
Seriously - if anyone wants to mod their pride and joy - go for it, be it a Ford (there's that nasty F-word again) or a Vauxhall.
We shouldn't get our noses up high just because we can afford more expensive cars - that we all mod in one way or another.

I got a FRST and put bigger alloys and a 165bhp chip, remember these cars are usually old and most (some scoobs included) look boring without help. Would you suggest i keep my 3 spokes on or OZ super-t's I dont really agree with escort cosworth spoilers on a nova but after some thought it isn't really hurting anyone is it.

Gastro i think your wrong, my first car was a Fiat Tipo that i paid £2295 for and within a week id paid £600 on alloys £200 on an exhaust but not to look like a "boy racer" but to be different!
Because it feels good when people come upto you and ask is it a turbo? or nice wheels where did you get them?. There not gonna comment on a standard car are they, you dont get people coming upto you and sayind "nice wheels trims mate!" do you?
You can comment on my car and see if it MAX POWER like in the members gallery (under "whats your first car? heres mine!)

Seems if you have a scoob then its ok to tint your windows, put gold wheels on your car and put a 5inch exhaust on cos that is upmarket and well classy ;-). Do it to any other car and its max power.

I couldnt believe what i saw today thou, a rover 200 series (older type) with a scoob scoop on (was in BRG)
The other one is a total mess IMHO, a diablo red 306 dt on an N reg, with stupid spoiler, scoob bonnet scoop, lowered and wheels that rub the arches (just no clearance) and also fitted with a dump valve so it goes clatter clatter clatter psssssssssst clatter clatter clatter! has a single wiper conversion and has just been too overdone IMHO so looks like it has just come out of halfords lol!!

Nothing wrong with modding yer car as long it is tastefull.
All the fisher price stick on spoilers and fido dido stuff like that. I have seeb quite a large number of really clean professional looking modded astra's and the like ( I used to own one ) + the performance to match.
Respect due to the correct modded cars. Not everyone can afford a scooby or a porsche.

Nowt wrong with modding a cars styling. It's their money and time and sometimes it's comes out ok!! So let them do it.
If it wasn't for the max brigade perhaps we would have not seen the p1 or mad evo's etc..(or aleast a softer version) Their maxxed styling has moved middle ground taste to accept spoliers, dams, scoops etc..
Just stop those bloody Nova's (around this way- not all of you vauxhall guy's) from drivng your 2000kg's worth of extra plastic laden wagon up my @rse!

This is not just a British phenomena .. check out
http://www.chez.com/jacky/ you want the galerie on the left.
We've all stuck or bolted things on to cars in the past. You get over it when you realise you should just buy a better car in the first place. e.g buy a standard mondeo v6 for 3k rather than spending 2k tuning a Nova to 170bhp.. etc.etc...
The poster was being snobby though, and that's not nice.

I read max power, would you call this max powerish? i agree with the tasteful mods which i think i have acheived in the piccy above, with some simple colour coding, renault laguna front splitter, exhaust and some rims!
Theres nothing wrong with being a mod freak aslong as YOU enjoy your car and sod everyone else.

So when are all us impreza owners going to get over sticking on bigger spoilers and go and buy supras that come with a decent large spolier ?
Alot of the anti-max power cars comes from a) those who have never had to start at the bottom and dont remember what its like to try and make your car different. or b) those who do, but have had spoliers or scoops wrenched off 'cos some little ****** cant be arsed to stay off the **** for a weekend and save up for it.
The answer to why they dont just go and get a deecent cars is mainly insurance. Cover on an impreza for a 21 yr old in a dodgy area with no no-claims. Hmmm either a rich daddy or some interesing cash rich occupation required. (I'm sure there are those 21yeard olds who have worked their but of to do it but I think they're in the minority)
If Max Power = Colour coding/big exhaust/air filter/brakes/ice/spoliers then that covers about 75%of impreza owners on this board.
head *** out of get your please
The other 25% are wondering which bits to colour code/which exhaust/which filter/which brakes/which ICE/which spoiler

Yep,
It's all a matter of taste really, I have Prodrive Wheels, Some HKS bits and big Exhaust on my WRX... Nothing too major and I still have a small spoiler
I don't like most of the cars in M*x Power, and have only ever bought the magazine to buy car audio (or look at the laydee's ). I seriously question people spending £7000 on making a £500 nova go faster or look 'trick'... Why not just spend £7500 on a good car, or £5000 on a good car and £2500 on bits to make it look different/go faster.
My first car was a Citroen AX GT, I've seen a few which look horrendous with 3 spoke wheels and the like, so I was glad I really didn't do much with it...
That said my second car was an altogether more impressive, 309 GTI which had lots of modifications (mainly to the engine), as far I was concerned it was a great 2nd hand purchase as the previous owner did most of the modifications, then I bought it for about the same as a standard car... This was much faster than standard, though a slightly dodgy colour
That said the car was most notable for the fact it had Knight Rider light in the front bumper Still got the light somewhere... Ripped it off before I sold the car! Don't really want it on another car, but it is good reminder of a good car

Max power mag is a bit of a contradiction realy, most of the cars in the mag are either diesel or have a 1.1. All bodykit and no go! And i think Rev's is going the same way too, which is a shame.

I think the attitude against Max'd cars on here is very harsh though. Surely we all started out in the same mould, and to slag people off for their own choices is crap Gastro.
As someone has said we cant all afford Scoobs or Porsches. I drive an MR2 which is unmodded for now, but I will be modding it sensibly.
Here is my old 205 which also had sensible mods, but people still called me a boy racer.
Widen your thoughts and attitude and dont make the Scoob, and the BBS the reserve for narrow minded dictators.

Black Scooby1 that is a very nice scooby
I wanted to modify my Puma but thought not of it one because it was still in warranty and two cos I saw the scoob of my dreams
So I am modifying that instead
Not bothered about Max Power cars as long as they don't act like w@nkers when out on the road or act like idiots here on the BBS
(Or steal corners )

There is a lad lives near me and I think he started out with a Corsa. After a few weeks of nothing happening to it (I pass it everytime I make it home), bits changed.
Now it is quite impressive, lowered a lot (a bit too much for me - there are some really nasty spped bumps and it must be a battle for him to not scrape it). He has done the exhaust, the front has changed completely the rear bumper is new as well. Really nice alloys.
All painted up to be the same colour, a very nice job. Actually I thining I worried him once when I parked up and told him I liked what he had done to his car you could see him waiting for the jibes to start flowing.
He like many people that mod the cars have spent time and money on it to get it how they want. IMHO his car while being OTT (in many people's eyes) is a labour of love for him and does look nice.
I think when we refer to the MP boys and girls we are looking at the Nova/Corsa groups that have the attitude that they rule the road and try to race everyone. Oh BTW I saw my first Nova with a Scooby scoop shame they didn't colour match... I managed to restrain myself at the lights, thank goodness, I love the police cars that are just around corners...

Well well well......... This post certainly got a response....
I'll definitely need to wear my asbestos suit more often
Perhaps mt initial post seemed a little 'nose in the air' but to defend myself......
1) I was aiming the post in particular cars that suspicously seem to have mods from other car parts eg. the scoop
2) Tasteful modification / performance enhancements were not meant to come under the umbrella of this post.... ! Sorry for offendng 99.9% of the persons on this BBS
3) The point of cost of souping your 1.0l up to looking like the turbo is often a financially counterproductive thing to do --> often the car loses more value and the money that you initially spent could have bought the turbo ???
4) My position on getting a performance car is valid - I personally (if I had the money!) would be directed to my preferred car - a scooby or a Porsche....
5) I totally agree - if modding makes you happy - great - just be tasteful eh
6) This was not meant to be a dictator's post - but I was intrigued by the responses
7) Now where is PSLEWIS when you need him .........
As for the photo's.........
Fiat Tipo - 2/10 - awful car, awful wheels
Peugeot 309 GTi - 3/10 - Good car - pimp tints ??? Why ?
Peugeot 205 GTi - 5/10 - a great car in its original form - why mod it at all ???????? At least you didn't alter the Pinninfarina lines externally
Black scoob - 8/10 - great car, tasteful mods, looks a professional job !
Now lets hear some more

Black Scooby,
They have got to be the best wheels I have ever seen
If I ever change my wheels I want some of them...
What are they and how much do they cost.
With regards to the thread topic each to his own I say...

Yep, pimp tints were a bit dark, but actually very useful... That pic is particularly bad, but nonetheless it was a great car to own! As I said the modification was done by a previous owner, personally I didn't really like the colour that much either, but bugger me it was fast - over 160 bhp, with a nice exhaust note too. It was my 2nd car and I was only 18 at the time, and while my friends had 1.0 Metro's and the like, my 309 was amazingly quick Insurance - well that was about the same as my WRX is now
3/10 - Pah, never liked those VW's anyway and don't get me started on porsches
Each to their own.... I entirely agree about spending loads of money on a 1.0 or what ever to make it look like the 1.6 turbo or whatever - generally a complete waste of money and fairly fruitless.
But remember a P1 is just an overpriced STI with a tarty body kit
Buy a scoob not a porsche though (unless it is a 959)

I still buy Max Power sometimes, however being 31 and a respectable (ahem) member of society I have to sneak it out of the newsagents inside a copy of Razzle or Sheep Fiddler today.

Gastro you can stick your opinion as far as you can get it up your tight ****!
The mods i did on my tipo were tasteful at the time of doing them AND id do it all over again cos i enjoyed stuck up toffs like you slagging it off then jumping in there standard £20k car thats the same as the next one, id say a BIG majority of the people who replied to this dont agree with you so when youve pulled your head of of your **** then sit back and think before you speak!
