Warning - Import Insurance
#1
Yes, its what every Impreza owner dreads each year. Annual insurance renewal time.
Having just received my insurance quote for next year I was happy with the £768.00 quote from my broker (who for the time being at least shall remain nameless). The quote is for myself and girlfriend as equal drivers and fully comp.
Anyway, when I originally went with them (2 years ago) I had several conversations regarding the fact it was a STI and thus an import. Eventually I was told that the STI carries a 10% loading as it was an import.
Looking at my renewal statement I noticed it just said "Impreza AWD 2000 Turbo". It did not mention STI or import. Just phoned to check (the person I have always dealt with has left so I spoke to someone else). My broker and subsiquently the insurer does not have my car down as an STI and never has.
Nauturally I'm furious. So if you own an import, please check that it says so on your certificate (or at least WRX or STI).
Anyone got any numbers for insurance of STI's???
Thanks,
CB

AXA direct (http://www.axamotor.co.uk - 760 quid all in (UK spec, sorry to raise hopes too high)
My car is an UK spec import from Holland, so life may be a tad easier for me.
Sorry for being a tease. Try axa, they were excellent for me.

Just to add to the confusion....
My insurance states that my car is a 'Turbo Import Impreza'. Ok, no problem with that, it's a std WRX.
The funny thing is though, that on my reg docs, it clearly states that my car is a plain 'Impreza GL'!
Would I get away with it??

Chiark,
Axa Direct may well give a good quote for a UK spec turbo (albeit an import) but they cannot quote for a P1 because it's grp 20.
Anyway Schofield insurance was the best bet for me.
Rum thanks again......

Andy, thanks for the info: hopefully this'll stop people wasting time on the phone.
Tom tried hard to get a good policy for me, but in the end age/area went against me. It would have been cheaper if I'd had a P1 (apparently no joke!)
