Piston slap is the most common issue with the MY97/98 cars.

Points on your licence.
Piston slap on the STi 3 is not a big problem, not as prevalent as on UK cars.
Take it easy until the oil is warmed up, off boost, gentle on the throttle and avoid going over 3 k rpm for the first five minutes from cold and remember the oil can take 10-15 mins to reach full working temp.
If you do have piston slap when cold, turn the radio up It should have gone away when warm.

Except for the first sentence, Harvey is dead right in my opinion.
As stock they are a really nice fast sports saloon.
Tweeked a little they are better still.

Buy it.
Graham.
And if you mod them, so much fun:

if its an STi3 it won't have DCCD as standard

Only the STi3Type R & RA had DCCD fitted and no ABS

Cheers

How easy was it to retro fit the dccd? ...im thinking about doing it as a summer project. Ive got the dash/ dccd controller/ loom, just waiting to source a box (cant decide on Type R or Type RA ratio's) ...& did you fit the Type R plated diff too?
