Default Difference in MY99 DBM v MY00 DBM(colour)

Is there much of a difference in the above colours and generally which is the more desired? If anyone has a pic of both that would be great. Also if one looks at Subaru Impreza - Photo Page and under the DBM classic UK section, Pic 5 incase the link does not work, which DBM is that.
Thanks.

No difference at all, they are both the 'facelift' model

There are differances, one is Dark Blue Mica, one is Deep Blue Mica, not sure which is which, but I'm sure someone can help. Also 00MY has colour coded mirrors and door handles

The MY99 was also colour coded. Different style 16" alloys on the MY00 as well.
IIRC the ecu on the MY00 is also less desirable than the one fitted to the MY99.

as above. MY99 is Dark Blue Mica. MY00 is Deep Blue Mica.

additional updates included different alloys, interior map lights, and the BIG one - the ECU.

The MY99 had a better ECU, resulting in better performance. Do a search on here as it's well documented and "discussed"! Not going into it in too much detail because it's a WHOLE can of worms! eg PSLewis won't accept it

Whilst the MY98 suffered from piston slap, the MY99/00 suffered from a chocolate-based MAF. Usually getting damaged during a service (by simply changing the old panel air filter for a new one!) - they're crap.

It's easy to check, as the car will drive like a pile of ****, or stall on idle (mine used to do it at junctions) - again, do a search on here for MAF failures.

Apart from that, it's pretty bomb proof, and is the best of the classics Some would argue, the last of the real Imprezas!!

The ecu has only minor differences, mainly for the emissions test, otherwise no differences at all, performance wise, no not really, you may get 3-4bhp more out of a standard 99, remap both and no difference.
There were 3 ecu's for the 99/00 car, the 800, 801 which were both found on the 99 and the 802, they are interchangeable if you really want to do that? though i dont know why

Colour coding, only on the MY00, the 99 had different alloys (5 spoke) the MY00 has 6 spoke, colour coded mirrors and handles, the 99 didnt.

Thanks everyone and while all that imformation helps, I described it badly in my post, what I meant was the difference in the colour difference between both DBM's.
Thanks.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Check mine out, it's a MY00 Deep Blue, it's got a mica tint in it opposed to the Dark Blue on some models, plus colour coded mirrors and door handles.

Not wanting to turn the thread around from the colour again (I have no idea - mines a MY00 but I just go 'DBM' as I have no idea if its Dark or Deep) but why is the 99 cambelt 45k and 00 60k if there's so little difference?

Anyone know how the MAF gets damaged at service? think mines stuffed and problem started after the last service

Stood together they are quit different... I suppose the best way of describing it is mine has a metallic finish and Danny's looks plain dark blue.
It's when the sun comes out the difference really stands out.

I don't fully know if the Dark Blue has much/any metallic colour in it or not... I'll pm Danny and send him this link, he lives with the colour and is familiar with mine so should be able to answer more clearly.

Hi all,

Me and Si first noticed the differance on a photo in Scooby Mag of the southern big one a couple of years back, Both cars parked next to each, Si's looked a brighter shinier blue and mine had a darker tint to it, both are matalic, I know mine has flecks of gold in the paint not sure about Si's

If someone has a copy and wants to scan it in you'll see the differeance.

Dark Blue and Deep blue look very similar in the shade and both are metallic (well mica actually.)

However, when the sun is out - Deep Blue takes on a new character and really dazzles and becomes more vivid and bright, whereas dark blue looks pretty much the same as it does in the shade.

The MAF can get damaged by to much vibration, when they remove the air box and connecting pipe work, they can be to rough because they have times allocated for servicing.
A quick check is to re-set the ECU with the connectors under the dash, if the car then runs badly, stalls and idle is all over the place, it's normally the MAF.
Change or drive off boost until you replace it, the engine will run lean on boost and high load, which in turn leads to DET.

The cam belts are the same, it was extended to provide lower servicing costs
To the fleet buyers, my car is a late 99, change at 45k. I think this is about right for a cam belt. It's all down to cost some Audi's go 20k plus without an oil change, don't want to know what that would look like.

Hope this helps.

I noticed this in a car park the other day. I have a MY99 on a V plate, and I saw another V plate, and noticed it was much darker. But My paint really does shine up nice under certain light. After a detail yesterday, I could really see the metallic flecks.
So some MY99 must have had the Deep Blue Mica's. I'll check my colour code tonight.
