New to the Subaru scene
Hi, I have been toying with the idea of getting a Subaru, I've got the chance of a 2002 bugeye, 50k an STI in blue, showroom condition from a main dealer.
how much should I be paying ? what should I look out for ? cheapest Morette front light conversion ? any info please

Vary between £7K and £10K depending on mileage/condition. As said probably more if its a main Subaru dealer.
Would you not consider private? Probably pay the same for a later blobeye private than you would from the dealer.
Don't know on the lights though. Good luck on the search

Just to give you a comparison - I picked up a private sale 51' reg WRX in Feb with 42,000 on the clock and a Subaru history, near mint condition, for £6100.
It's not the STI, but good money never the less I think. Just got lucky and caught the fella when he needed the money. An envelope of cash (along with his annoyance at some tyre kicking time wasting joy riding toss pots that had viewed before me (cheers fellas!)) pushed him over the edge.
Personally I think you can do well as a buyer in the private sale market. Mainly because, from the sellers point of view, there is a lot of frustration caused by timewasters and the fact that many potential purchasers in the several grand upwards bracket haven't actually got the cash, but want to make use of dealer facilities ie part-ex,finance,warranty etc. So if you turn up to view when you say you will, look at the right things, ask sensible questions, seem genuinely serious about the car, offer sensible money and, above all, actually HAVE money(!) a private seller will be pleased to see you.

I'd say £7500 for an STI with that mileage from a dealer is a little ambitious. My 02 WRX PPP with 55000 on the clock was £7600. I had searched the market for a few months before the purchase and this was the cheapest/best deal I could find. If you're looking at a main dealer.. I'd say they'll be looking for close to 10k.
Depending on how much you have to spend, I'd suggest going private and potentially going for an 03 onward WRX or something. Should be able to pick a relatively low mileage one (30k ish) for around 9-10k.

Your looking at a fair chunk more than £7500 for a '02 STI!
02 STI Prodrive-style's seem to be going for between £11,000 and £13,000. I managed to get mine, with PPP, for £10,500 (from independent dealer). Keep in mind that the Prodrive-style was £2000 more than a standard STI, and the PPP adds another £2200 or so to the original price. I would think the £9000 to £10,000 would get you a really nice 'normal' STI.
And don't weaken and buy a WRX.. get the STI, trust me, you'll only regret it if you don't!
