Default HELP!! I can smell fuel under my bonnet!!

I pulled onto my drive last night after a short 1/2 mile journey and I could smell petrol/fuel type smell coming through my heater vents. Didnt think a lot of it untill I got out my car and walked around the front and could smell the same smell a lot stronger. I lifted the bonnet to see if there was anything obvious but it was dark so I had to take another look this morning. When I started it up again this morning after 30 secs or so I could smell it again but not as strong. There were no signs of fluid leaks just the smell. I'm worried about even moving it off the drive now incase its dangerous!!

Has anyone come across this and anyone have any possible causes?

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Nathanb

I had this same problem and it was due to a split hose. There are 3 hoses that come from the fuel canister on the passenger side of the engine bay check these other than that it could be a split o'ring on the regulator

I drove mine for a long while as i couldnt find the leak for ages but it can get a bit overwhelming.I'd strongly advise that you let the engine idle while you flex the fuel hoses to see where it squirts out from rather than drive it

When the leak is found where would I buy new hoses from?

Any good motor factors should have hose suitable for fuel lines.

I had this over the cold spell and it cured itself!

So strong I daren't drive it without the windows open, but still had to get to work. Didn't seem to stop in the 3 miles to work either. Same as you, checked everything with a torch, couldn't see any leaks.
Got underneath one morning and could see drips of fluid coming from the downpipe/middle section.
Took it my local dealer who told me they had 3 cars in all doing the same and couldn't find anything wrong!

Soon as the weather warmed up again it stopped!

Check you can't see ANY petrol anywhere as I don't want to tell you all is OK if it isn't, but when I saw yours was a 2001 Bugeye I wasn't surprised to see this!
If it doesn't clear soon post again!

Had this on mine after cold starts and I think it was due to very rich mixture from cold start system. My mates Scoob is same. Never had any prob in warmer weather.

Cheers lads. I may hang fire for a couple of weeks. I'll put some card underneath it and try and detect any leaks. Thanks again!

P.S The thing that worries me though is that it wasnt particularly cold last night
