Completed my running in period last week and everything was fine but i had noticed a slight noise. Theres an almost tappet like noise from the engine from 2-3000 rpm approximately. I thought it was just to do with the running in oil at first but its still there. Its most noticeable at 30mph ish in third just before the turbo comes into play. Has anybody else got this or an explanation. Is there a butterfly or similair that varies at these revs (can vaguley remember my dads 2.8 capri making a similair noise years ago, and it was something in the inlet plenum) Any help greatly appreciated!

A fluttering noise? Mine did this after resetting the ecu at the 1000m service. Apparently it's normal. It stopped after a few hundred miles.

not really more like a hi speed rattle eg a butterfly valve or something. Only seems to be in this rev range, eg can't hear it below 2k but after 3k can't hear anything for the turbo!

mine makes this noise too. pretty much always has. i put it down to subarus version of variable valve timing. does it when engine labours a bit prob when u would ordinarily have dropped down a cog in the old 2.0 - the 2.5 allows you not to.

if your worried take a technician out with you from dealer.

thought it might be something to do with vvt too. Dealers 120 miles away so not wanting to have a trip just for him to say they all do that! cheers

i've noticed a teappety noise at tick-over. Gonna ask the dealer when I take it in at 1000 miles

mines wrx, but can't say its noticeable at tickover hence why i thought it was a vvt type thing.

I suspect that you'll find it's the wastegate making the sound as it's starting to open as boost is built up...., if it is, it's nothing to worry about at-all....

if it was the wastegate would it not do it at all revs when you opened the throttle? Why would the waste gate chatter? don't know myself just looking for answers!
