I think import duty is 10% BUT you then have to pay VAT on top...

i.e.

Item is £1000, Duty is another £100 = £1100 then vat gets charged on both totals = £192.50 gives a grand total of £1292.50 (OUCH)

Quite how they can justify taxing a tax is beyond my thinking...

I'm pretty sure I've got this right from when I was looking at importng a scoob from Japan.

Ady.

Looks right to me, but you have to remember you have to pay import tax on the shipping, insurance and anything else you have paid to obtain the goods on top of the purchase price.

So it works out:

Goods+Shipping+Insurance+(Your supposed to declare an agents fee etc) then you add Import tax and then VAT on top of that.

Think thats bad try 30% import tax here in Ireland. So 10% is very low! A Friend had to pay over 7k yoyos for his P1 recently, i really feel for him.

Is this on all goods, new or second hand? Ive just paid £32 import tax from the states for something second hand that cost £145, if I had known I was going to have to pay this I would have bought new in this county, a rip off if you ask me!!
