WRX for £3500?
Evening
Thinking of trading my car in and getting a WRX turbo. I don't really want to spend much more on top of what I'll get for mine, so only really have about £3500 to play with. I know I'm not going to get anything special, I'm really looking for something thats fun to drive and gives me something to work on everynow and then, as I bought my last car with my sensible hat on and although it's served me well it's just not doing it for me at the moment.
I found a place on autotrader that have several cars in this price range, does anyone have any experience of this place? They are M25 cars - M25 Cars - Selling Used Vehicles in Shepperton, Middlesex, does anyone have any opinions on anything on there?
Any other pointers on what I should be looking out for is greatly appreciated
Cheers
Mike

seen his advert a few times, the cars always look fairly priced and in good condition
hopefully another Scoobynetter has purchased a vehicle from there and give you some good feedback?
generally though you get what you pay for so have a good look around

A £3500 car at a dealers will have been bought for around £2500.
You will be MUCH better seeking out a Private Example for £3500 (which will be asking £3999) ..... this will get you into a 1998 example.
Stick to a UK car and as few owners as you can - also, shun ANYTHING modified with the exception of a backbox.
Above all - do NOT buy a cheap one (it will NOT be cheap for long!!)

I can only see a silver one on there for 3450?
How can you tell they are imports? What are the basic differences in terms of value/spec?
I've just done some online insurance quotes and it doesn't look too good, it's over twice what I am paying now on a 2l (N/A) similar sized car. Will have to phone my company tomorrow to see if they are any better.....

I beleive the imports have electric folding wing mirrors and cup holder above the stereo for a start. If the exhaust is the original one, it goes over the rear axle, the uk version goes under
Correct me if I'm wrong guys

Nothing wrong with imports i've got two. Better spec than UK cars.
Only problem is they don't usually come with pre uk history, not that i could read it anyway!
However, you do get what you pay for, i found out the hard way
The chances of finding an un-modded car of the age bracket your going for is unlikely, and even if you did it is likely that the mods have been taken off just to sell the car and get extra money for the mods.
I've just bought an import STI MY01 for 3k under general price in autotrader just because it's had a few owners and a sketchey history. Had a mechanic go over it and up on the ramp,it's perfect!! Hell of a bargain
Just be sure you have it totally checked over before you buy, there are some right sheds out there!!
Good luck!

Imports have better engines, more horse power and a better bargain for the money you want to pay.
On the other hand he can tell you alot about how he changed a can belt on his Nissan Micra! No joke!!!

Cheers for all the comments.
Been thinking about maybe uping the budget to around 5-6k, as looking on autotrader this just gets me into STi and special editions territory. Thing is though I haven't a clue what benefits you get with these over a normal WRX. Can anyone point me in the direction of a site that has decent details and specs of the different years and models/types/editions etc
Cheers
