Polarbearit

The v cheap one at Tileys is a very high mileage 50k and therefore well used example. I dont think it is representative of P1 values as a whole.

I "may" be tempted to put myself in debit for rest of my life coz Iv seen a P1 at a Scooby dealer for a good price.

If you want to scare yourself do a search for P1 related topics in this forum. This will probably however put you off buying one. All I can say is that I have had mine for almost 12 months, have not had any real problems and couldn't think of a better car to currently own. This sentiment is also echoed by mist of the people who actually own one and not those who have 'heard' stories about them.

Anyway I would just do what you normally do when you buy a (second hand) car. Check that it has full history etc. etc.

Good luck.

Ive had mine just over a month now - traded from a MY00. Absolutely no regrets just feels so special to drive .

Not aware of any long term probs. Obvious thing though is cosmetics. P1 spoilers are always getting damaged (I'm amazed how you can catch them on even the smallest pimple in the road) The paint on the frilly bits is soft and prone to chips and scratches. The side sills especially get scuffed with people dragging feet over them on entry and exit.

The front lip spoiler came with a clear stick on protector as new and this has been removed on a number of cars I saw to allow a respray.

No doubt you will read elsewhere about paint flaking off the rear wing and engines blowing up. I think though that is a minority of owners.

At the end of the day you always have the full scoob dealer warranty and despite what others have said with the three new scoobs I have owned getting any faults reectified has never been a problem.

Only problems with mine, are paint flaking of the inside of the P1 on the rear spoiler and the 'Bright' button not working. Neither are big problems and the dealer has said that they will sort them out on the next service.

Things to look out or are going to be the same as any Scoob, after all it's an Sti in English clothes. But many of these cars will have had a hard life and a number have been bent. Mechanical problems will be covered by the warranty so other than inconvenience there should be no worries there.

The English wardrobe, courtesy of Prodive, is quite another matter. There must be owners who have no complaint about flaking/chipping paint but I've not met one so far. We previously ran a Terzo. Same colour but within three months the P1 had more chips and scrapes than the 3 year old car it replaced! New environmentally friendly paint may be the reason but it IS a characteristic of the car.

"If the deal seems too good to be true it probably is" so take a look at a few more. Slow sales of new P1s doesn't seem to be repilcated in the second hand market, a local dealer had two which sold in days. I didn't consider them cheap, spend a little time checking why this bargain is still in the showroom, especially if it's an ex demonstrator.

PS Bought this car instead of a UK 300. With the benifit of hindsight would I have made the same decision? Certainly not.

I wouldn't have listened to the hype and wasted months waiting for it to be released

Cool

I just bought my p1, and all i can say, its f**kin baaadd man.. best car I've had. Power, power and more power.. and its in total standard form..well nice.

haven't had no probs at all, (but then again its a apr 2001 model. Saw a couple of p1's at the dealers, one w reg (around 24k) was in a right state, front spoiler, well mashed..although the dealer said he would sort all that out..before selling it.

test drove a e36 m3 and a evo 6 before getting my p1, and ain't even lookin back. well chuffed.

can't wait till the mod's start flying in! trust me check it out all before hand, do the hpi,get the full product listing from the subaru website and make sure the one you look at has all of them, and make sure u watch the bumps and stuff, cos the front spoiler is only 15cms off the ground.

go for it..you won't regret it.

Cool

Don't even think about it - get the P1. I've had mine for 3 months now and it's just superb!!! You'll never get the attention as much either in an Elise, or the ability to scare 3 people at the same time (4 at a push).

P1's are Great!
However the interior light doesn't come on when the passenger door is open on mine! Also chin spoiler is a pain.

6,000 miles with no real problems.....paint is OK; running costs OK.

You do not have to run at silly speeds to enjoy it !!

Cheers

On from my last post more in line with P1 market prices, Tileys have also just sold (I believe) another x plate advertised at £27,995. (Bobs old car)
