Default How to tell an STI engine from a WRX engine in-situ?

Hi all,

I’m looking to buy an STI that has had its engine swapped over recently.

Does any one know how to tell what engine is fitted with the engine in the car?

I know the car is an STI because the applied model is right and everything else checks out OK… the question is how do I tell if the right engine was swapped over?

I don’t want to buy an STI with a WRX engine in it!

Cheers,

Ian.

Be aware that manifolds can be and often are taken off and painted.

Also, the V1 and some early V2 STIs did not have the red manifold, it was just plain silver like the WRX.

Cheers for your prompt replies so far!

Yes I know about these indicators… I was hoping for something a bit more concrete like engine numbers or something that can’t be bolted on to dress a WRX engine up!

Allegedly it is an STI 5 motor in an STI 4 car.

Lots of interesting reading, thanks!

Close but no cigar! I think all engine numbers start with EJ20....

have you tried having the car HPI checked???

give them the chassis number and the engine number they should be able to track it down. use a well known HPI comany as they will give you a guarantee (if they c*ck it up, its down to them)
