Filling the motor up tonight and seen another scoob owner (bit chavy looking driver btw) pull up in the pump behind me....
As you do had a wee stare at what looked like a turbo 2000. Then as he goes to pull the pump nosel out the pump unit I realise he aint filling up with V-power but normal unleaded!!!!
I was going to comment to guy but "For F*ck sake its a performance car!"
Anyone else seen this thing happen in the pump next to you and feel like commenting

The best one was I saw a Porsche fill up with ordinary unleaded.
Got all the Kraut posters on here, saying why the German machine could do high performance on normal unleaded, AAAND how our poor Jap Mobiles needed Super to try to keep up with them.
(check my previous post " Porsche couldn't beleive it")

My uk turbos got a subaru sticker on the filler flap saying "use super unleaded only". I use Tesco 99, wouldn't dream of putting 95 ron in, better safe then sorry!

Its also suprising how many scoob drivers don't let their cars warm up before nailing them, or cool down before turning them off.
Just shows that its always best to buy from a genuine enthusiast.

On a UK car I wouldn't have thought it would make any difference. If it was a 2000 model then V-Power, or even possibly Optimax, might not have even been around when the car was made? So I guess it probably wasn't even mapped to run on better fuel?
If it was a JDM car then it might be a slightly different story.

my uk impreza also says on the inside of the petrol flap to only use super unleaded fuel and not the cheap nasty stuff, i did use the cheap stuff by accident before and could tell it wasnt my usual stuff.

"Normal" UK Impreza's should run on Normal Unleaded (NUL). That's not to say you should run them on NUL, just that they will do it.
ISTR any WR or PPP tuning options would probably require the use of SUL though...

At great risk:
My 911 runs great on unleaded, or v max or leaded as long as it is petrol, and its done that for 18 years in my ownership.
My 400 bhp Sti must have Vmax + full NF boost dose to stay alive when ragged hard, and its done that for 5 years in my ownership.
Both are specifically tuned to do this.

Where's PSL when I need him?
Seriously, I had no idea there was such a thing as "Petrol Snobs"
Sometimes I put 95ron Asda petrol in my car, sometimes I put Tesco 99ron in it and yesterday I put Vpower in it... Couldnt give a sheeite what goes in and neither does my car. Incidentally, it's serviced every ~10000 miles as per the service book?
Had subarus for 4 years now, never ever had a problem with this?
If someone looked at me funny for putting 95ron in my baby, I would look back and do a mahoosive belch

no probs in using 95 ron supermarket fuel in mine either. If you are just doing every day driving without ragging it then its fine. Sure the handbook for the uk subarus says they can be run on 95ron but for optimol performance use super

To be fair it's his car and his choice. I run my fabia on shell diesel as I've found it run better and cleaner on it where as other owners just fill up with cheap diesel.
If his car pops it's his loss really.

Jase,
Its french mate it will run on anything, as far as i know with my know how of the renault F7 and sport engines they will will just as fine on 95, i think what renault are saying is they have found the clio 172/182/197 will produce that sort of horsepower with super, but with normal unleaded it wont give the sort of power super does.
Might be worth ringing renault UK up and double checking, because when i had my r19 16v the figures stated 137bhp stock so i had on the rollers running on 95, and guess what 120bhp, put super in and it was spot on 137bhp but then PUFFF white smoke head gasket went, typical french car falls apart even with all the love and care

MY06 runs mainly on V-power but it has it's fair share of normal UL, the only fuel it seems not to like is BP Ultimate not sure why, it likes the normal UL.
I sometimes mix using half UL from on station and then V-power to top it off it all depends on where I am and when I need it.
