The average is about 12k a year, so a little high, but not excessive.

Bear in mind you can get a brand new euro import for about £15k though!

I think people's perception of "high" mileage in scoobyland is a bit warped due to the number of people who have weekend cars with ultra low mileage. My '03 wrx has 60k on the clock and has been running 286bhp for most of that time. Its never run better, just needs a bigger turbo and bits or a trade in for a nice cheap "high" miler Sti.

Aye 12k per annum is the average. Anything above is classed as "high" but to be honest if the car you're looking at has been serviced regularly then it should be fine...
My car was doing a 120 mile a day commute for a few months last year and was raking up the miles but they were all at 78mph on a motorway. Hardly changed gear, hardly had to brake so there was little wear and tear...

Not a problem imo (although I wouldn't fancy one personally).

If it has complete SH and hasn't had rafts of owners it should be good. They are hardy cars generally but I would still take a mechanic etc to be on the safe side.

My 03STi has done 44k with PPP then remap and mods. Runs fine and uses no oil, only sign of wear is the carpet where my left foot rests, bit of stitching on the steering wheel and the usual stone chips and s/market dings. Oh I did have OSR wheel bearing fail but didn't cost earth to get fixed and rest are OK so I was just a bit unlucky.

My 03 wrx is sitting at 52k. Has fssh runs perfectly,
no worries at all. The main benefit of buying a trade
car with 50k on it you can ask them to throw in the
50k service as a deal clincher (timing belt one - approx £350 ~ £400)
I did, saved me a wee fortune

Craig.

Condition and history are far more imprtant than mileage. You don't see many 03 UK STI's at that price. 54k these days is a walk in the park...

I bought mine last year with 41K on the clock. Mileage wasn't important, it had a FSH and was a previous company car so it had been well looked after.

As long as it meets its service intervals and hasn't been abused, then mileage shouldn't be a deciding factor.

Thanks

Matt

I would suggest that whether this is the right car for you will depend on how much you are going to use it. If you are going to do a load of miles as well then a 100k STI is not going to be worth much. Check the big service has been done and make sure you test the car from cold as an already warm car will hide lots of potential problems. Then haggle for all you're worth. This guy would bite at £10k so offer him £9k to begin with and tell him you'll take him round to the bank straight away and get him his money. Good luck

I like your buying skills Blueblaster! My mates Dad is just like that but usually goes even lower eg. 10k car - offers 7k and gets cash out of pocket. May not get it for that but he always gets a bargain or walks. Legend!

thats a good point about the mileage when i go to sell it, if i bought i reckon il prob out about 35k on the clock in the space of 3 years, so i dont think it will have much re-sale value, im going to see it tomorrow anyway, no harm in a test drive, oh and for peo[le in scotland, its an arnold clark garage, thats another reason i am un-sure about this !!!

in the next say 3 years, what will the service costs be ?

i told the salesman il sleep on it and let him know tomorrow

I have been looking at a P1 in my local garage. Adverties for £14k with 47k on the clock, and full service historie. (Apprently unabused)As most car owners have common sence when dealing and buying new cars. My point is the gear **** is worn out and the gear numbers hardle visable also the top of the steering wheel is very shiny with a couple of cracks in the leather. My point is as long as the cars looked after and well maintained i dont see a problem my self.

dont forget to see if the p1 has ever had a short block fitted,as you know p1s are notorious for oil starvation to the crank! im sure any subaru techs here will tell you..
