Default Subaru Engines.

Never owned a Subaru but often wish I did.
Do, or have Subaru ever used Porsche engines?
Thanks.

I'm an old car Anorak and on another forum the suggestion was made. I am 99% certain there is no connection. I've come to the horses mouth....or is it the lions den

Ha, welcome......its the lions den here mate.

I think the answer is no, never.

The subaru engine is known as a boxer engine, thats where the assumption or confusion probably stems from.

No, Ferdinand Porsche used an air cooled flat four in the Beetle but the engine had been around in BMW bikes in the 1920s.

Probably thinking of the Flat four layout.

VW used it in the Beetle, then Porsche later on.(No mechanical sharing).

Think you'll find that if you go to the beetle forums, VW camper forums and even the 356 replica club there have been a few of each of those fitted withg the scooby engine but none the other way round that I've ever come across.
