Default Impreza GT 94 -> 99 diffenrences

Hi,

I sold my GT a year ago and really regret it so now I am looking into buying another one. The only problem is that cars in Denmark are EXPENSIVE, this means that I'll have to give around 20000 £ for a well used 99 GT, so I have looked around for other options. One of these could be a 94-95 Wagon GT, not the prettiest model, but still very usable!!

Now my question is, how many things are different from the 94/95 GT to the 99 GT? The GT was not sold in Denmark before 98/99 so I do not have any Danish car to compare to and was thinking of importing one from Germany.

But how different are they when it comes to engine, brakes, ECU the ability to get aftermarket parts and stuff like that? My previous GT had around 350 BHP achieved by quite a few mods and EcuTek. Would EcuTek also be an option on a 94/95 GT or is that another ECU type? If so, can this be changed to a never model that support EcuTek? What turbo does it use? How about the brakes, does it use the same 4 pots as the 99 GT?

I hope that somebody can help me with a few answers.

Thanks in advance

Rasmus

If Carlsberg made Subaru FAQ sites, they would probably look like this:

Subaru Impreza FAQ

Sorry..........but what you want to know will almost certainly be there

:-D Thanks :-D

I have had a look in the site, but I would like a little drill down on some of the points. What are the differences on the phase 1 and phase 2 engine and how strong is the 94/95 engine? I can see that quite a few changes were done to it in 97.

Are the 99 GT brakes a direct swap?

And how about the ECU, is it possible to EcuTek the old 94/95 ECU if not, is it then possible to change it to a newer version?

Theyre very different. You can neither ECU-Tek nor swap for a later ECU.

So swapping the engine with a phase II is not an option? Is it the wirering loom that stops you from going for a ECU swap and EcuTek?

How strong is the 94/95 engine compared to a phase II non STI engine?
