It is probably the same as my 4x4 Auto. Basically when its switched on, it holds the gears, so your car doesn't suddenly jump up or down the gears. Great if your on a motorway (it saves fuel as it doesn't keep jumping down a gear) and also when towing, as it will power through which ever gear it is in, rather than jump down a gear.
It probably has the snowflake on, as again if your on snow, jumping down a gear and suddenly booting it off probably isn't a great idea???

I think some Legacys have a switch that heats up the windscreen underneath the wipers. It defrosts that bit of the screen so the wipers aren't stuck after a cold night.
Don't know whether that's it.

1/If you stick it in 2nd it should also pull away in 2nd.
Lowers the torque.
2/Put it in 'D', press the snow flake button, 2nd gear pull away, then it continues normal driving AFAIK
It will continue to start in 2nd untill you tell it otherwise.

I have a Pajero as well and the Hold button adjusts the torque converter in the Auto box to stop it dropping into a low gear when its slippy or your cruising. The Paj has a three way switch for this, Hold, Normal and 'Power'
It also has the winter pack which has a Defrost strip along the window for extreme cold. I think some Northern Japan Car options included a winter pack which Subaru might offer as well.
i.e. Defrost panel (Hence the snow flake)
AND
if your car was an auto you got the 'HOLD' option on the gearbox.

Hi all
This is most strange, my impreza wrx is an import from belguim.
I pulled the offending switch out today and it is wired up, but I have no idea what too!
I have tried pressing it but it doesnt seem to do anything.
Hopefully it will freeze outside tonight and i can see if it activates some kind of heated windscreen.

My snow hold light has popped up on my dash today when my Dad took it to get fuel, so he flicked the switch and thus it went out as expected.
However, on the return home from the filling station he observed the light illuminated again. Now flipping the switch has no effect and the car is indeed stuck in snow hold mode.
Anyone know the likely fix?
