Why did MOT need it?

I got a pair of pliers, attached to the centre of bung and just kept wiggling. Make sure the screw has been taken out of bottom off exhaust.

MIG welder tack a piece of steel near to the centre then a pair of vice/mole grips clip on and tap out.
