On a country road for 98 in a 60 I got £555 fine and 6 points.
If you get offered a fixed penalty take it!
If it goes to Court, check if you have Legal Cover with your insurance which might cover you for Solicitors costs - saved me over £400. Like the previous post says, get a letter from your employers - or write one yourself on company letterhead and get them to sign it!
Cheers,
Ian.

i have received a speeding ticket from the welsh police stating i was caught by camera doing 57 in a 30 in swansea, but the letter doesnt state a fine or points penalty.does anybody know what i can expect and will i have to attend court. www.caughtspeeding.co.uk states i will get 6 points and upto a £600 fine,is this correct.
your advice and experiances of similar circumstances greatly appreciated.
mike, (no points or convictions at present)

You will get notified shortly (!) whether you are getting a fixed penalty or an appearance in court.
My brother had to wait 3 months before getting a court date and that only gave him 4 days notice !!
He was caught doing 71 in a 30 (a dual cariageway that looked like a 70 - he is not local to the area) and 'only' got 6 points and £200 fine - got a great letter from work saying that he needed his car though which the magistrates said thay took into account.
Best of luck - it is a very nerve racking experience and I wasn't even in the dock !

hi,
I got caught doing 90 in a 60 (they tried to claim it was a 50 zone but I did my research... at the time it was 60 (changed to 50 3 hours later!).
This happened in March and I had to go to court in september. I got 5 points and a £220 fine.
Then... I went and bought a BEL Euro 550... best £400 I've spent and they make you drive slower, you're more aware of your surroundings (even with the detector off).
good luck...
ta,
Matt

Just out of interest when did you commit the offence and when did you get the letter through the post? The reason I ask is that if there was more than 14 working days between the date the offence was commited and the date of the postmark on the envelope there is a good chance you can get off...

For camera offences the letter must be sent within 14 days of the offence. From the date that a ticket is issued (either by a camera or a real policeman) they have 6 months to prosecute. Often they take about 4 months plus before they do anything which is kind of a grace period since you have a clean(er) licence for that time.
As for fine. I got stopped for 88 in a 60 (on a motorbike). I got £150 (cheap) and 6 points (not so cheap).

I believe that the case is dismissed if this does not happen. In practise I'd think they make sure to send out the notice within 14 days. This gives you a fixed period within which to crap yourself after either OK or not (you got the ticket).
