Hope I spelt that right... I've put it in my car and it doesn't appear to be my imagination but the car seems smoother, quieter and all round much better performance... any one else with an opinion?
Pen

I think my excitement was too much and I posted this twice...my system isn't working this morning.

PEN - With immaculate timing I think you followed me into a certain Woking car park this morning...? Yours is a black 4 door with an 'appropriate' plate? Mine was the DBM 5dr.

I reckon Optimax gives an improvement over SUL, but think you'll find your MPG ain't as good as it is with SUL.

it probably won't matter all that much as I don't go very far anyway, just manage to give it a quick burst through the back lanes to Chobham, then we crawl all the way to Woking.. never mind..

Ditto me on the crawl from Chobham to Woking (DBM 5dr). More fun on the way home, though.

And btw, I reckon Optimax has improved fuel consumption marginally over 95 RON.

I noticed a difference when going back to Ron 95 unleaded.

Optimax (in my MY99) is smoother, more powerful and gives almost no hesitation when the engine is cold.

Thumbs up!

I have kept fuel records since getting my current car (not a Scoob) 2 months ago. I have data for 6500km so far. For sure, when I use Optimax my fuel consumption is about 15% better than ron 95.

Astra boy
I drive a black MY99 WRX soon to have new spoiler...

If there's all these people crawling from Chobham to Woking everyday how come I never see anyone...????

I sometimes see a silver one going the other way

It was suggested some time ago that the Woking'ers have a lunchtime meat (or meet even) ... maybe not such a bad idea as there appears to be a few of us now...

maybe after Christmas

Just started to use it in the M3 and have noticed a few small differences with throttle control and economy. Got 25mpg on Sunday driving back from a weekend away...

It's bloody cheap at the moment as well. 71.9p a litre down south. Probably even cheaper up north though.

Depends where you fill up Maffa.

The two nearest Optimax stations to me - one is 74.9, the other 71.9.

Do you have to reset your ECU to feel any benefit?

PEN.... The infamous...

Heard so much about you! Anyway.....

I had my car RR during a fuel change.... Super Unleaded -> Optimax that day.... had two runs.

First run came out with 241bhp

Drove around for a further 70 miles.... to let the car adjust to the petrol and went back for a 2nd run.

Second run 251bhp / 266lbs torque.

The car does run better since the change and I continue to use Optimax.

After discussing this with Pete Jackson (ex works cheif mechanic) he said that the car will need a few tanks before full benefit is reached and that my RB5's performance should improve even more!!

Had loads of tank' worth now and going to RR again in Feb so will find out!

I personally have had a good experience... and others haven't.

Catch ya soon

My car seems to run smoother and go a bit further on optimax, compared to SUL.

Nice to see some test results Plantie.

I'm on my second tank of Opti and it does seem a bit smother but now it's nice and cold at night, the Scooby seems to fly even on olive oil.

You probably all know but you can hunt down the best prices for Optimax in your area using,

http://www.ispypetrol.com/

I've been using this site for 2 months and it seems quite up to date.

Getting back to the subject, I did find a noticeable difference this morning. As it was the kind of day my car loves (sorry no teckie knowledge) when the performance is substantially better. There was quite a significant difference today...

I've noticed better pick-up from low rev's and no pinking e.g. On NUL95 the engine would want me to speed up or change down into 3rd from 4th when going up-hill at 30mph.

Not that it gets to go that slowly very often!

Have been driving on Optimax for a month now since prices came down. My Legacy B4 feels so much better for it especially since it has turned colder. The B4 is designed to run on 100 Ron fuel that you can get in Japan. When it has lower quality fuel the EMU backs off the power and will not readily go back to what it was until it has seen a regular supply of quality fuel. The only way to cheat is to reset the EMU by disconnetcting the battery over night. Be careful though as repeated use of this trick to get the boost back up will cause engine problems as you will suffer from pre-detentation which is not good.

As the B4 has twin turbos it may have a more marked effect. However if your car is an import then it will have been set for 100 Ron fuel as well. Optimax is 98 Ron, SUL is 97, and unleaded 95. Am going to perhaps use some Brocquet in the tank which is meant to raise the fuel quality by about 2 Ron to see what happens.

I have noticed that the Shell unleaded 95 ron is particularly rough running at present and much worse than BP 95 ron. I wonder if they've reduced the quaility of Shell 95ron to encourage people to go to optimax and to accentuate the inprovements they will see?

Call me suspicious but it really is dreadful stuff the tank I had before i filled with BP, and I used to like Shell 95ron, found it acceptable.
