Question Advice - 2.0 or 2.5

Apologies if this has been covered before but I am new to the forum

Looking at possibly getting a 05 2.0 STI or 06 2.5 STI? Anyone with experience of both who can tell me which is the better to drive on a daily basis as I have an 80 mile round trip to work. Also, what about resale, is one more desirable than the other?

Thanks for any advice

Hi and welcome to SN.

Generally the 2.0 engine is regarded as the better of the two... since its a little more 'Impreza' like than the 2.5 lump.

Saying that... the 2.5 may be better suited for a daily 80mile trip... as its profile seems to suit this type of activity better than the 2.0 which generally prefers to work the gearbox a little more.

Er, to oversimplify, one revs, one has thumps of torque.

I had a MY03 WRX with PPP (2.0l) and now have a MY06 WRX getting PPP fitted on Thursday (2.5l). Even without the PPP, there is a lot of torque. Really looking forward to the PPP. It will still be quick the 2.5l, but will have loads more torque. That gets my vote !

My 2.5l still "revs" and has more talk,so the best of both worlds its a lot better lump than the 2.0l

JDM will be quicker, but if you want the warranty, I would go for the 2.5l mate.
