When retailers advertise "brake kits" at £1800+, what exactly do you get and what difference does that make compared to simply replacing the discs and pads ?

I had ferrodo DS2500 pads with my Godspeed kit.......worked really well but a bit too "dirty" for a tart like me LOL. Pagid were much cleaner and only a bit more noisy

Had DS2500 pads fron & rear with DBA 6x6 series 4000 discs on the front.. Got from Alyn @ AS Performance, vast improvement over the standard would actually stop over and over again with no fade. Deffo the one to go for in my book.

I have a kit from Godspeed on the front and rear of mine , but they also offer discs for yours , they offer a 1 and 2 piece disc for the front , I'm sure the 2 piece ones are only around £300 a pair , Welcome To Godspeed Motorsport

I've got Godspeed 2 piece discs and Ferrodo DS2500 pads on my MY05 STi and can't fault them on performance, the wheels do get dirty very quickly but thats life. Only paid 320 inc delivery for the discs.
