Wondered if anybody had come across or made anything that warned by a buzzer or lights of impending RPM redline......can get a bit carried away sometimes on an overtake and hit the redline thus rev limiter, when I should have grabbed another gear a few hundred RPM ago.....

Any such device?

ideally you could set it up to warn in vary degrees of nearness - eg 5K, 5.5, 6.0 etc.....

Or is it just me........

There are quite a few of these available, and are able to give a sequencial display as you reach your selected max.
I asked virtually the same question a few weeks ago. Do a search under "Shift light" and see what comes up?
