Usually MAF ! If you also have a flat spot in the power delivery at about 4k revs then almost definately. Most common on 98-00 cars with hotwire MAF's. Get it checked out or replaced, and stay under boost until you do, otherwise it will cost you more than 90 quid for a new MAF sensor.
PS. Don't let the dealer sell you the sensor and housing as it will be nearer 200 quid

This was a post from a couple of years ago that I thought may be useful one day........
Nick
Just incase anyone gets ripped off like I nearly did by my local dealer trying to get a MAF sensor only (£76 inc) instead for being charged £280 for the complete thing.
The part number is 22794AA010 - Meter CP-AIR Flow
Made me mad, just want others to be aware that this part IS available as the sensor only.
http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...hreadid=154601 for my rant at the dealer in question.
Thanks to Cheam Motors for supplying the part so quickly.
Thanks also to the late great Moles Dad who I know found this out
