Default Decat

Please don't flame me - I have tried a search, but it comes up with so many replies. Basically, can someone explain what a decat exaust sysem is comapred to a sports cat?

I hear so much on the forum about decat systems, and would like to know if possible.

Thanks,

Mark.

Decat exhaust system is just that mate, decatted - Cat removed completely and basically replaced with a straight through piece of pipe or resinator. Sports cats still serve the purpose of a normal cat in reducing emissions but have a greater airflow and athus much less restrictive. Sports cat = MOT friendly, Decat = Not MOT friendly (Most Of The Time)

Thanks very much - and sorry for sounding stupid, but still learning about my Scooby ATM. Do decat systems provide significant increases in power?

Cheers,

Some say yes, others say it's marginal. Every little counts

But the sports cats are getting cheaper... Just depends on whether you like the idea that you could get stopped/done anytime and the hastle of MOTs

A resonator is something that you remove so your car makes a nice noise. I did !

There's isn't much difference between a full decat and a sports cat in terms of power (just a few bhp more in favour of the full decat AFAIK). However, there's a fair bit of difference between either of these and a std cat, powerwise. Sports cat is good, but costs more.
