Check out www.subaru.co.uk and look under the tick (its approved used cars) they have a selection of sports and turbos etc in and probably a better choice than buying private at the mo for you

Hello People

I am 20 years old and still driving my first car which is a Mark 2 fiesta 1.1 ghia.

I am 21 is a few months time and need to get a bigger car.

I have finally got some finaces together and I would love a scooby but just thinking about the insurance almost brings tears to my eyes.

Does anyone have any suggestions with what i should do! Should i dismiss the idea of a scooby for a few years?

Oh yeah i desperately need to get a bigger car as i am the annoying height of 6 foot 5 inches!

Any help will be appreciated

You could try for the sport? its still a 2ltr just N/A and depending on year, either 115bhp or 123bhp.

Few things
The insurance costs are likely to quite high for your age.
Scoobs are not that cheap to run, average around 22/24MPG, this can get down to 12 if really pushed.
Apart from fuel, tyres, servicing need to be kept in mind, there are several companies who have the expertise to service your car, not just main dealers.

how much are you prepared to pay on insurance? and how much do you have in the way of no claims nobus?

If it helps i have 60% no claims at 21.. It cost me a tad under 2k for insurance, just to give u a figure.Thats a MY99 turbo.. Thats also in an ok postcode(i think)..

I have around £8k to spend maybe pushing to £9k!

I, hopefully!, will have 2 years no claims when i am 21.

I have had a few quotes already and they are between £1700 and £2400.

Am i likely to get a nice, youngish, scooby for my budget? Another person told me to aim for the sport but they seem to be very hard to find, are they? or is it me being blind!!!!

Yup thats the one, just pick your price range and do a large search and you will see what sort of car your going to get for your price, and for a little extra you can normally extend your warranty but you looking at a 2-3 yr old car for the sort of money your going for, should get a good one thou
There are a few sport owners on here, they handle just as well as the turbo and are still pretty quick if you check out www.sidc.co.uk it should give you a good guide on the specs

Hiya m8,

I'm sure I saw a turbo replica in top marques a couple of months ago. It was a sport with a turbo's bonnet (and scoop) and the bodykit. Can't remember how much exactly but I think around £13k. My point being that if you wanted to appear like you have a turbo buy a sport and fit a turbo bonnet! Cheating I know but hey your young and insurance is crippling until you hit at least 30.....

yeah i dont disagree with any comments but if yer guna do it i say go 4 the full monty & get the turbo, so much fun & if u have that sort of wedge it's more than achievable

Careful long-term. There are a lot of people who have bought the Sport to start with and finally realised that it was the Turbo they wanted, so they have to change. Changing cars means you are going to lose a certain chunk of cash.

For that price I don't think you will quite make the post-MY97 era (nicer interior), depending on mileage. Look at expected service costs for this age and, as above, fuel and running costs.
