Got my new Mud Flaps this afternoon from Performance Creations, upon opening the parcel I found plastic brackets not stainless steel, as quoted on web site. Looked again at the site to find the first part you click on saying stainless steel brackets, then the second part were you add to bastket, it says poly????? brackets (plastic).
Now to be honest I think they'll be fine, but what do you guys who have the Flaps already fitted think?, should I really try and get some stainless steel brackets for them?.
Thanks
Daz.

Thought it was a cost reason, thats fair enough.
Can I ask you a question on your fitting, did you trim the bracket off, or screw it to the inner wheel arche, as it says either in the instructions?, I'm guessing screwing it will help with strength.

hmmm, i got mine about 10 days ago with stainless steel brackets lol.
To be honest though, i'd be perfectly happy with plastic ones i think. They are quite flimsy brackets anyway, and don't seem to add all that much strength.
(they are thin enough to cut you without feeling it, like a sharp knife. 3 times!!!)
You should have no probs (Y)

Tbh i would see plastic being an issue, but would question whether it costs the same as stainless steel.
Just fitted mine with the polypropolyne ? brackets and I have screwed the end hole to the inner wing, TBH I was more concerned about those little black plastic plugs comin gout so I put a nut and bolt through the top hole of the rears.

Rallying1:- Do you mean you've screwed another screw to the inner arche?, , I got 2 extra nuts and bolts in my set, can't remember if its the front or rears that only have one nut and bolt going through the bracket and flap, think I'll drill another hole just to make it stonger. Then got to find some suitable self tappers to screw to the inner arche.
I have not trimmed the end of the bracket off I have drilled through it and self tapped a screw into the inner arch. By the way I nailed 3 drills doing it thats some tough metal in there!!
And I had some nuts and bolts left too.
The instructions are a bit pants tbh and it took me a while to figure out which brackets went with which flaps. If you are still strugglin gI can pop out and take a few snaps of mine and e-mail them to you (if it stops raining)

As for rising steel prices/china last year, they are back around the same mark as then.. a sheet 2.5m x 1.25m x 1mm St/St at the moment is £85 +vat....
The mudban ones I got came with plastic brackets and no need to drill a hole or screw a self tapper into the arch liner. The back ones are held on by two screws. They work fine. I'm sure yours will be ok.
i'm waiting on some. I had a response when i first enquired that said the delivery would be slower as he was waiting on stainless brackets. Not sure why though if they need work to make them fit.

Only thing i've noticed is one of the rears didn't seem to hang straight. I took them both off and swapped them around. They look better now.

How deep do you have to drill a pilot hole in the Arche liner?, I also need to buy some suitable screws, but don't know what lenght to get?, guessing about 10mm self tappers.
What product do you use to seal the drilled hole to stop any rust forming.

I had the PC ones on my car, and it had stainless brackets. The brackets aren't the problem, it's the plastic clips. I reversed up to a kerb one day, rear flap got pushed against back wheel, plastic clip popped out, flap dropped and got tore off when I drove away. Didn't realise until I got to where I was going with 3 flaps.
I bought a set of scoobyworld ones with stainless steel brackets, stainless nuts and bolts and genuine subaru fittings, same price. They have been on for some time and have passed the 'kerb' test, simply flexing and staying bolted on.
If you fit the PC ones then put some proper nuts and bolts in to keep them on.

The way I see it at the moment is that the flaps are only held on by 2 clips that can be pulled out when ever, and one screw that goes in the wheel arch, doesn't seem enough to me.
Might see where else I can secure the whole thing to the car with another screw.
Would some silicon sealent do the job of rust protection?

reversed up a curb today....
tought it was cool as it was tiny, but still managed to trap the flaps. LUCKILY, i used the plastic push in clips. For this reason alone, nothing was damaged, as they were simply pulled out. They went back in fine.
Make sure youy use them rather than bolting the flaps on. If i had mine attatched any better, i'd have broken either the bumper, or flaps.

well mine happened to fit so that i drilled it on the 1cm kind of edge that the bottom of the arch has. where it is bonded/crimped if you get me??
It was about 2mm thick. I think it's only very thin sheet metal, like 1 or 2mm all over that area.
Certainly not a problem to drill with a 3mm bit ready to take the screws

Ok I'll got at it slowly, so as not to make a too bigger hole, its not very thick though!.
A few replies up by Rallying1 said he killed x3 drill bits on that part
(thin metal but tough metal?)

For reference mine arrived last night from performance creations. The stuff looks great, smells better wOOt! and i had stainless brackets, plastic lugs and stainless bolts all supplied.
Plus he did them at the group buy price because i mentioned Scoobynet and put different designs front and rear so can't fault them at the moment.
instructions don't seem terribly clear right now but i'm sure it will make sense when it comes to fitting time.

All fitted today. Thanks to all above for your help. Took all the wheels off, even the back, don't know how people fitted the flaps whilst they were still on?. Took me 2 hours in the end. Thnk they look cool.

, I don't surpose you know how thick the inner wheel arch is to drill a pilot hole do you?
