Its a visual indicator of excessive noise from the engine. Used by car owners who have been modified their car and need a clear and quick indication of engine noise. Especially used by pre99 owners who have apexi ECUs or other engine management that does away with the factory fit knock/ ignition retard function.

Some troll will come along and rubbish their use, as usual he hasnt got any evidence to say that these devices dont work in protecting your engine.

If you have a 99 year car or younger Ecutek tuning is available and keeps the oe knock feature, in which case you dont really need a knocklink.
