Question

Arboo Fellas

This is something I have wanted to quiz you boys on for a while, what would you have done to your cars given a wedge of cash.

This is indeed a serious question, I am about to embark on a new Scoob project, I know what to Mod and I know pretty much what with. My thoughts so far:

Brakes: AP 6 Pots
Suspension: Leda or new Bilstein
Handling: Bumpsteer, antilift kit
Zorst: SS Down Pipe, Magnex Midsection, SS BBox
Induction: HKS
Turbo: VF22, Blitz Turbo Timer, STi Boost Gauge
Intercooler: Not the fogiest
Oil: Mobil 1, Oil cooler??
ECU: Motec
Wheels: OZ 18" Anthracites
Tyres: SO2s
Driver: Me
ShotGun: Kylie

I know I have probable forgotten something!

Now I haven't got a wedge of cash to spend at once, so I going to do things an itsy bitsy stage at a time.

What would you have done?

And no I am not P1 - WR

Bore and stroke to 2.2 litres, lighten and balance crank, add drop forged pistons, reduce compression ratio, 8 injectors, equal length hea etc etc.

How much did you say you wanted to spend ?

I'd look for a closed deck block with tougher internals

tougher gearbox and transmission (diffs etc) perhaps from WRC

better cams

bigger injectors

bigger turbo

and so on...

Better start with WRC and put comfy seats and ICE in

Okaly Doklay

I'd go with Evo 3 squirters

HKS front mounted intercooler

And Id go for a Bigger Turbo than the VF22 maybe a Garrett Number.

And Blubs Momma riding in the passengar seat.

he he he

Blubs I don't know why I have picked on you, but I have

Cool

Start with a white STi Ver 6 Type RA.

Closed deck block (if it hasn't got one already) bored & stroked to 2.2 litres. Lightened, balanced, blueprinted, etc. Hybrid turbo (built for response rather than ultimate power) with 360 degree thrust bearing. Front mount intercooler with reversed inlet manifold. No dump valve! Motec ECU. Full Scoobysport exhaust including equal length headers.

Straight cut strengthened gearbox internals. Scoobymania AP brake kit. Custom Leda C set-up. Full STi PU bushing kit.

Prodrive PD7s in anthracite with Toyo Proxes T1-S tyres. PIAA driving lamp conversion.

Quickshift. Welded in FIA cage. Recaro SR seats, all unnecessary stuff (like stereo, etc.) removed!

Oh, and maybe a P1 to use when I wanted a car with a radio in it!

Just need to win the lottery now ... lol!

Andrew.

Don't know why anyone would go 2.2...........

you don't need new internals - get a Turbonetics Big K**k Off Jobbie, exhaust, Motec and run it at 35 psi.....

It'll be fine........

Scott,
It's doing OK. Not run in yet - is noisy, not your normal "smooth" engine that's for sure.

Am running big clearances though......

spec is similar to what you posted here, except with Big Topmount (still to arrive - early next week )

forged rods, pistons, hardened balanced etc crank. and of course it's a 2.2!!

new exhaust coming, perhaps headers, not decided yet and Link on the 25th.

and the large air inlet pipe - loads of induction noise!!

haven't been over 4k by much - does pull hard up to then - has a load more low down torque.

all in all, pretty good - but it is noisy.

cheers

Intercooler - try MRT topmount (can be front mounted - it is bloody huge!).

Exhaust - with the sort of set up you are describing you are looking at high top end power and as such I would recommend a BPM twin dump and HKS Hiper mid-rear. Higher top end gas flow, if not as driveable on road.

ECU - do you need Motec, also consider LINK - cheaper with different strengths (e.g. no antilag on the road version).

Oh, and don't forget high flow hoses from induction through intercooler through to turbo - can release a lot of power - and get your heads gasflowed and fit STI 3 cams.

That should do it.

Good Luck

So, Sunil that's two cars I have seen it fitted on then - only the £1000 price tag and other priority mods stop me from getting one not to fit my car!

Mark,

you beat me to it - you're right tho' two intercoolers - jeesh!

Greg,

Sh*t, TWO front mount intercoolers !!!!!!!, and water injection.......that should cool things down . Won't mention the two surge tanks heheheh

Sunil, my MRT TMIC fitted fine, dropped my intake temps by about 25deg', and only took 10 days for Scoobymania to get in from AUS'. Guess I was just lucky

Mark.

Self-evident init - the all knowing Sunil says it doesn't fit - I'm saying I know of two cars where it does. Simple

I'd add a pre-96 steering rack. Which most beleive provides much better feel for the road. All you owners of 96 and earlier cars speak up if you agree.
