Advice on towing? Is 10k + too far ?
Im gonna be towing a pourly scoob tomorrow about 12 miles with a rope by my works van with a tow bar. Was gonna use a bar but ive been told there is a good chance it could **** my front bumper. Its gonna be a busy saturday so just need a few pointers that may help me.

yeah i would to say a trailer would be best mate, as i have found out, was getting towed by my misses and some one in front of her slammed his brakes on and put in reverse to park up at the last min, so my misses slammed her brakes on, as you would imagine i went straight into the back of the car and smashed them both in,
good job it was only an escort hey, we can laugh about it now
as you would know the brakes are useless unless your engine running and it the other drivers on the road you should worry about

No you wont, it is safe to tow so long as all 4 wheels are on the ground, if you cant get a trailer or an A-frame, just tow as normal. advise is to take it easy and let the car being towed do all the braking.

May be too late, may not but it's also b*ll*cks.
What you musn't do is tow it with two wheels on the ground and two wheels in the air, what the recovery people call the "suspended tow", typically done using a spectacle lift. If you do this the rear wheels are turning and the front wheels are prevented from turning (or vice versa). This will mean the centre diffs taking up all the difference which it doesn't like.
The Subaru owner's manual has a section on "Towing with all wheels on the ground" so it must be OK. Why do you think they build towing eyes into the front bumper of the car?

Maybe the 40mph bit then? It'd be a bit dangerous sticking to under 40mph on the motorway. There's nothing in the manual about a speed limit but I guess it's just the AA covering themselves against a claim for damaged diffs.
