Default holes in the boot of a classic

got the well known leaking rear light cluster prob which results in a wet boot - however on closer inspection there are two holes ( one either side ) just behind the rear wheel arches , in the boot floor and i can see thru to the ground thro them - looks almost like a rear strut brace had been fitted and then removed - anyone enlighten me on what these holes are for !! should there be something filling them !

Depending on the size, car shops sell them, as do auto factors. Measure the diameter of the hole.

Car shops tend to sell them in packs of 6, three different sizes, but still not dear.

yep they should have rubber grommets but I thought the wholes in the boot were to let the air out of the cabin when the doors were slammed
