TOOK THE DUMP VALVE CHALLENGE TODAY!
After asking questions on SN about the above and, both points of view on this subject are miles apart, I decided to take the plunge.
Got an atmospheric Bailey Dump valve fitted today with 1 extra little mod>>>>>>>>>>>>
In the Tubing, there is a little valve fitted about about an inch inside the hose.( the thin hose)
This was taken out ( I noticed it had a large hole in the centre) and an STI one replaced it. ( The hole in the middle of the valve is very much smaller).
This forces through more pressure as the hole is smaller. The difference is very noticable. Much more responsive low down and much smoother and quicker!
I do agree about the whoosh and, it is a pain, and I have had a few looks from puzzled pedestrians but, the exhaust burble drowns it out a bit.
Very pleased and for me, it has made a difference.
Hope this helps in the great debate about Dump Valves. Everyone is entitled to their opinion which I respect.
Happy Motoring while we still can.

Yes, if you are looking at your Turbo, on the left hand side, it goes underneath.
The easy way is to feel the little hoses and the one with the lump is the one I'm on about.
Hope this helps.

V5 Man,
Been told it's in the wastegate pipe to the booster port selonide and it's called a pill restrictor.
Defintintely goes better with the STI one fitted!

If you have changed what I think you've changed then you should be careful.
The pill restrictor has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the dump valve.
It is there to control flow to the wastegate actuator.
Putting a smaller one in will restrict boost pressure from getting to the wastegate and opening it, therefore it will stay shut and your boost will be higher and less controlled.
Not really surprised it goes better.....

Or, save yourself a few quid and put the original restictor back in.
I remember this being changed when my car was being remapped to get the desired boost, so you need to be careful

I have had the SRCDV from new.
As I said apart from the whoosh, very pleased with the increase in responsivness etc.
The extra thing I had changed at the same time was, fitting the STI tablet valve.
IMHO better than the recirculating one. I know I've only had the job done 3 days, think it's better with the ADV.
Kind regards

Thanks for your thoughts Alan.
I can remember years ago hearing that Freddie Mercury would have liked to have had his protruding teeth fixed and asked the dentists whether it would effect his singing. They said they didn't know, so he didn't go ahead with it.
That's pretty much how I feel with regard to removing the dump valve !
Would consider going back to std but don't fancy a loss of responsiveness.

Will make no difference to feel, and you don't need a remap for the dump valve.
This thread has become confused by 2 very different things.
changing the restrictor (pill valve) affects your boost control, and requires it to be checked/sorted out.
Do whatever you like with your dump valves. Std will be fine, no loss of response.

I'm not convinced that a VTA increases responsiveness. I think the feeling you get between the two is down to power delivery.
I thought mine felt slower once I put the re-circ back on but I think its due to the fueling being correct again. As theres no initial thump (ala VTA) when you floor it it feels slower but after a week with a re-circ I'm starting to think its still as fast it just does it alot smoother.
