My my98uk turbo is doing the same. Its in the dealer at the moment. They reckon it is overboosting causing fuel cut. Find out 2morrow.

My MY96 STI was doing this up until sunday. Answer.....

Clean your boost solinoid and the small cylidrical thing mounted above it. Take off all of the rubber hoses (remember where they go!), connect the green plugs under the steering column and the car will start a self check mode and you will here the boost solinoid clicking. At this point fire some brake cleaner in to it. It will come out of the bottom (mine was dirty). Keep on flushing it until it runs clear. Leave for a couple of hours to dry. Put everything back and hopefully it will be OK! £2.60 for brake cleaner and it's sorted!

Hope this helps! Gotta be worth a try for £2.60!!!!

Let me know how you get on!

Nick

You can get overboost in cold weather which means you may be hitting fuel cut. Would tend to happen more in 4th and 5th. It could be the MAF as the MY99 cars are prone to MAF failures over time.

Try an ECU reset and see how the car drives. If the ECU has compensated for the failing MAF you may find the car is worse after the reset which could point to the MAF.
