Default MY03 wagon tailgate unlocking problem

It happened last winter and has started again now it's turned chillly , If the car is left overnight and I unlock it as normal the rear tailgate wont unlock (all of the other doors are fine )I have to lock and unlock a number of times before I can hear the tailgate lock click and unlock . I know this sounds daft but it only seems to do it when it's cold . Has anyone else had similar problems ,or a wonder cure for me perhaps ?

Many thanks

Hi there
Had a problem with this on my 97 wagon and was due to the wires wearing on the tailgate.
On the classics the wires were sheathed in rubber top righthandside between the tailgate and the roof. You can strip the rubber sleeve back and check the wires are not worn from opening/closing the tailgate.
Worth a look

Appreciate the thought , but I don't think it's that, as it had a new battery last year when the tracker was playing up
