Spark plugs should be set to the correct gaps otherwise apparently they can cause problems with boost. I am not sure if its the same with an MY00 but i think that an MY95 is 0.5mm.

0.5mm is too small for a near standard car. Basically, you won't be creating a big enough spark, so you'll possibly lose power and suffer poor fuel consumption.
For an Impreza upto roughly 400bhp, a gap of 0.7mm should be fine.

The correct gap size is 0.5mm. The reason being is if the gap is any bigger the spark has tendency to not arc across the gap and escapes from the side of the gap it's self. This results in incomplete combustion causing the car to jurk when intially coming onto boost. The effect is worsened the greater amount of boost your running. This is what I've noticed on my car running 1 bar of boost.

0.7 was what I was told, by everyone. Which was exactly what mine were when they were new.

.7 mm except on highly tuned cars or cars using high boost. In these cases reducing the gap to .5mm may be necessary to avoid misfire at high revs
