It looks twisted to me, the bulkhead on the lhs (drivers side) looks damaged also, prob needs jigging straight but front is twisted by the bonnet catch.

Chassis leg appears to be undistorted, so not heavily damaged and concentrated in a small area and has only damaged the usual parts in minor scooby low speed fender-benders. But using new parts it will cost at least a few grand to sort properly:

Bonnet,
wing,
inner wing (unless it can be straignted - doubt it)
Outer wing
Front Valance (unless it can be stratened - possible)
Upper cross beam (unless it can be straightened - Probable)
Inner Bumper
Outer Bumper
Head Lamp
Sidelamp
Indicator
Foglamp
Front Bumper O/S insert
Grill

And thats presuming the chassis is ok...which you will never tell from a photo.

Imo not too bad bit worse than mine was that ive just repaired. Because the wing is blocking the view of the inner wing it a bit hard to tell but buy the looks of ot its only light but without seeing it thats only a guess. From what i can see your looking at bout £500 in parts wing £30, bonnet £140, headlight panel £30, slam panel £35, headlight £60, bumper £100+, bumper bar £40 other bits n bats. inner can more than likley be pulled back out.

In my experience of cars as damaged as that seems they do not drive correctly again following repair. I spun my turbo 2000 last winter and damaged the rear end. It was repaired and the body shop said it was within tolerances. It was lethal on bends. I took it to another body shop who said yes it was within tolerances and if they had a go at jigging it they couldnt get it any better. I couldnt put up with losing the rear all the time so I traded it in. I even told the dealer where I bought my new impreza from.

It was within tolerances and two respected body shops couldnt get it any better. Thats how simple it was.

Had it been mended properly; then it would have driven properly. Surely thats obvious? Just because it lined-up on a jig doesnt mean that it was mended properly, it means that it was straight!

Thats just the point. It wasnt straight but it was mended properly. It was straight to within a tolerance. They did what they could but it can never be possible to pull something back to an original position once it has been distorted. Body shops do what they can in situations involving main structural damage but there are limitations

What 'tolerances' and who defines them? Let me guess, the insurers and workshops Bet it's NOT the owners and independent engineers.

Didnt mean to hijack the thread. Lets get back to daz's original question. I have given my opinion but thats all it is, just an opinion from my particular experience.

Wrote my 53 plate Sti off and it looked far better than this. Engineer said that for an impreza to be damaged to the extent it was then the chassis damage etc must be major. Estimate was 15k but to me it looked like it needed new wing bonnet, wheel and cosmetics maybe 3-4k.. Subarus are strong far beyong most cars so if they look badly buckled avoid I reckon!

Please, don't buy it! You'll be opening up a can of worms. It may be cheap now, but to get it properly repaired will see your savings wiped out in an instant.
