Wink Subaru blowing Porches into the weeds!

For all of you who love to think your Scoob is faster than a 911 Turbo - see it here in real life where it counts

Sorry about the aspect ratio - not working out how to get a 16:9 video onto YouTube.

Fastest lap is one second slower than Tiff Needell in a 996 911 Turbo so not too shabby.

I am not sure any extra revs would have helped with lines like that in the corners

I don't think it was a Palmer car - it was quick though!

Do you know how much a set of bridgestones cost for the ruddy things?

They last only 6K-8K under road use

Thanks

Not that much - around 320bhp with full interior, standard suspension except for anti-lift kit and solid rear drop links (compulsory on the STi) and AP 6 pots. Tyres were SO2s in 17in rims.

Chassis got much better later. New car has a much, much better chassis.

It may have been a FPA in the video - makes me feel even better as I held on for a few corners

They can pull 2.5 lateral g compared to the Scoobs rather pathetic 1 lateral g!

Maybe I'll try that next time but I'm probably better off keeping my eyes on the track

I love these threads.

How do you know the 911 Turbo guy was trying ?
It might have been his first track day.

Try getting an experienced track day driver in the 911 Turbo, and you wouldn't see which way it went.

Here we go . I wondered how long it would be before someone felt the urge to run down Rannoch's efforts

I'd suggest Tiff Needell is probably a second or so quicker than most "experienced" track day drivers which puts Rannoch's efforts into perspective

Good driving but it really looked like to me that the 911 Turbo driver was not trying. You could just tell from the attitude of the car when it was being passed. The driver had eased off well early and probably wasn't going that fast in the first place compared to what Rannoch was achieving

Stilover,

I never said he was trying - everything I have posted is factual.

On the day you can see me pass two 911 turbos and a GT2 in the video. The GT2 was driven very slowly.

Tiff Needell did 2:49 in the Autocar time attack in a 911 996 turbo. There were only five cars out of one hundred under three minutes. On this video I did 2:50, with two people in the car

I also was just a slow as a 355 in a straight line on the straight, but massively outbraked and outcornered him.

There were a few cars on the day - sadly not on tape - that were very quick. 911 Cup car, R500 and a 911 993 RS.

Chill or go pick on someone else

Rannoch

PS What is your lap time on the full GT circuit at Bedford?

I completely agree - however to be in a position for him to back off and let me past, which he kindly did, required me to catch him up in the first place. There was on 911 turbo I could not catch at all. But there again he did not catch me either

I don't doubt that were shifting mate so yes, for you to have caught him up and overtaken him shows you can drive a bit

That was the day Steven got in my 911 for the very first time and on his first and only run on the quarter was 0.01s faster than my best ever run - b'stard
