Impreza WRX Wins TCOTY 2007!
Won in the £20k to £25k class apparently.
Best towcar, £20,001-£25,000
Winner: Subaru Impreza WRX 2.5
5-door (estate)
Price: £21,605
The Impreza WRX sounds menacing even on tick-over, where the throbbing exhaust note brings a smile to the face, but its boy-racer image makes it seem an odd choice for towing. However, Subaru decided to enter it in the competition, and none of us driving judges were complaining about that, since we had great fun. Ironically, the ingredients that make the Impreza WRX good as a boy-racer also make it a superb towcar. The powerful engine and four-wheel drive transmission mean that it makes light work of pulling a caravan. Likewise, the hard sports suspension means that it is very stable when towing at speed. The negative points are poor fuel economy and a maximum towing capacity of just 1200kg.
