LOL

Ive asked this before and was told about the power of a wrx ect, not really what i wanted to know.

So. i presume a uk turbo is essentially the same engine as the wrx (lets say a MY99 turbo v`s a my99 wrx) keep it consistent.

I know the output values, but what exactly hawse been done to attain these figures on the wrx.

What makes a WRX a WRX wasn't the question, it was the title

The question was
" i presume a uk turbo is essentially the same engine as the wrx (lets say a MY99 turbo v`s a my99 wrx) keep it consistent.
I know the output values, but what exactly hase been done to attain these figures on the wrx?"

Valid, clear and perfectly answerable

Does anyone know the answer, I think it is in the ecu,fuelling and poss.camshafts, but I dont KNOW for sure?
I know this does not really help but might get the post back to the point?

Classic WRXs are essentially similar. The turbocharger is different on later cars but as with the A; B & C-Series cars (which shared the Mitsubishi TD05), the principal difference is in the ECU settings. STIs have forged pistons, slightly improved intercoolers and series-produced cars have IHI VFturbochargers. From D-Series (V3) onwards; STIs have different cylinder head assemblies too.

...oops sorry i should of worded my question a bit better! GC8, i mis-read the original post, what I should of asked was whats the difference engine wise between late WRX classics and same age STi's as they both put out similar or same powers i thought (276bhp?!)...

thanks to all who've helped... i was just curious

Forged pistons and revised cylinder head assemblies. Different IHI turbocharger with a slightly revised intercooler and a much more aggresively mapped ECU. The later STIs were (allegedly) good for a shade over 300PS on Japanese [i]Premium Unleaded[/] fuel. Youll notice that all Japanese car manufacturers quote a maximum output of 280PS until quite recently. Some manufacturers like Mitsubishi made an effort to restrict their cars output but Subaru doesnt seem to have done.

im not taking sides here, as ive seen it from both sides. il admit GC8 does seem very abrupt with some of his answers, especially if something displeases him, but im yet to find another on here with his wealth of knowledge regarding many aspects of subaru ownership.

hes always been ok with me, answering questions etc, although very sarcastic at times... helpful never the less.

A WRX is called a WRX because that is what Subaru decided to call it! Subaru Impreza WRX, it is like saying why is an RS an RS? Ford decided to call it that, thats all, there is no intruige involved.

Ford Escort RS
Ford Focus RS
Subaru Impreza WRX
Subaru Impreza WRX STi

just a name !!

RS Means RALLY SPORT.. so that's why they call it that.
WRX is the Japan version of the uk Turbo its just a model name.

IMPREZA MEANS= is a coined word, deriving from an originally Italian word, impresa, meaning a badge or motto. In Polish, "Impreza" also means to celebrate, or party.

SUBARU MEANS= is the Japanese word for "unite" and for the star cluster Pleiades that is depicted in the company logo. The Pleiades (also known as the Seven Sisters) has seven stars visible to the naked eye. The Subaru logo's six stars represent the five companies that came together after World War II to form one large company.

STI= Subaru Tecnica International

RA=race altered

I was in no mood to suffer fools Bob. One called me an arsehole, so I told him to f*ck off; and then another started trying to be clever. He was so desperate to show me up it was untrue.

Youve been like a father to me here btw. Thankyou.

I wasn't trying to show you up. I was sticking up for someone that you were slagging off. I didn't see the posts from about 9pm upto when they got deleted (no doubt you were having another go at me) but that's gone now, lets move on.

You never listen do you?!?!?! I thought your comment was uncalled for, so I pointed this out. I also said the language you often use on a 'grown up' forum is uncalled for and unexpected from a 38 year old.

I never told anyone to f*** off and resent being called a '****' for not sitting back and letting you abuse yet another member just because you didn't think they had asked a good question. I'm not alone in feeling like this, other members have posted similar comments in different threads.

I have never tried to launch an attack on anyone on this forum, instead I have been trying to defend people who have been on the other side of an abusive message, in this case, from you. But instead of talking it through like a pair of adults you decided just to hurl more abuse at me. Which confirms my point to begin with!

As I put in a deleted post, you do make a lot of useful comments on this board and most of the time you are no doubt an appreciated member of the community, you just need to stop the abuse and negative comments just for the sake of it then i'm sure we can begin to get on.

Scooby drivers are already coming down with a bad 'chav' reputation, ignorant and abusive posts just confirm that impression.

I have no further comments to make on this matter and won't post on this thread again. I suggest you do the same.
