Go on - Be creative!! 'Virgin' MY01 STi
#1
On my way back to UK with my 'virgin' (i.e. untouched) MY01 STi. Can anyone give me any ideas (within a limited budget) to improve on the images below? Especially the headlights (afraid I haven't warmed to them yet!) ...
And don't worry about the dodgey test plates - they're long gone!

Cheers lads!
Been in Cyprus for a while. Bought it here from the main Subaru dealer.
Looking forward to getting back to the wind and rain of good old blighty!
Where's the best place to get the Morrette headlights from?

Not jealous at all!
The Morette lights make a huge difference.
I also saw in the Graham Goode website (thanks to Chuckster) replacement bits that would look good on your car.
The carbon STI replacements for the reflectors would work a treat and the black tinted indicator lenses would also look good.
I'm personally still wondering if I should bother changing my spoiler, since the effects only become noticable at 80-90mph. There is something for the more subtle rear end when dealing with the Nova/Corsa boys and police. Also the money can be spent elsewhere... springs, strut brace and brake pads!
Nice car BTW, very nice indeed!

I had a WRX with the Morettes headlights and it was fine.
I ordered a STI and I'm sure, this time, I will keep the original headlights, they are HID ones (Morettes not) and the price is about to $ 1750.00 to have them as option on other Subarus.
My opinion to improve the look is to put a "smily" grille and a beautiful front spoiler, without tuning look.
Superb car, but... you will learn to wash it !

How much did you pay for it in Cyprus? I get out that way very frequently and was looking at car prices out there a while back (I also have the, er, means to get one home too ).
I imagine it was quite "competitively" priced?

Awesome pic's. These headlights look great, wouldn't touch them.
Only thing from a cosmetic pov might be the front grill, the forthcoming European STI has a different looking one than yours, which imo looks wicked.
BTW I was excited by your pic's, 'cause I ordered a Black STI, and couldn't find pic's of a black car anywhere.

It is pretty cool innit? Definately looks better in the flesh than in photographs as well (for some reason photos tend to make it look even more rounded and less 'mean').
It would be a pity to lose the HID lamps as they are truly ace. I saw a set of HID lamp covers advertised somewhere which make them look a bit like the WRC ones, but not having seen them in the flesh I can't be sure they're any use. The new UK STi seems to have tinted lenses. Does anyone know if they are HID?

It cost 18,000 cypriot pounds (about 20 grand) and another 500 quid to get it shipped back. Still have to put it through all the tests and register it when it gets back though. If vat and import duty had to be paid that would be about another 5 grand to mister taxman though.
Hope this is what you wanted.
cheers all,

Put a paper bag over it's head
John
(unconverted old model driver)
Or see Dave TS's batmobile for how a black MY01 should look (shame about the driver - even if he does have his own race suit)

Thanks for all the comments.
I'm seriously tempted by the Morrettes or UK300 lights option.
Do any techno wizards out there know if you can get either of these with HID lamps? And if so - whats the damage likely to be??
I'm also tempted to swap the pink STi badge for a black subaru one. That and clear indicator covers.

Dave's car handles extremly well - the Leda suspension works miracles. Full SS exhaust makes a big difference as well. Stops rather well due to the AP 6 pots too
Ideas for the new MY01- mine arrives today!! (I'll try and post some piccies later). Morrettes are a must - these are now available with an HID option (about £400). Another rear spoiler to consider is the RallyTech WRC replica version - very nice (this will be fitted to mine next week - also fitted on Rum's UK300 and the Cheam Motors 'San Remo' special edition). If you don't want to go for the Leda, then a set of Eibachs should lower the car by about 20-25mm (don't forget to have your geometry adjusted aswell).
I've also heard good things about the APS exhaust system for the MY01 which apparantly doesn't suffer from the 'Check Engine' problem (where the warning light comes on every few hundred miles) that have affected other aftermarket exhaust systems for the MY01).
Nice car BTW
Cheers
Chris

I reckon it looks great as it is without the lights or badge change.
I've finally converted from preferring the look of the old shape.
The Jap spec lights are much better than the ghastly things they put on UK spec MY01.
How good a deal did you get on it? Cheaper than the 26k new UK STi?

I've mailed you off line about the light options, but simply put, you can get both the Morettes and the UK300 style lights with HID.
The option of the Eibach springs for the STi is less clear cut than for the standard WRX. The STi has different springs and struts than the standard WRX, and is already 20 mm lower than standard. The Eibach springs will not therefore be significantly lower than your current ones, and may not match the struts as well as they do the standard struts. Consider either the Ledas of DMS Gold if you want to go on the track.
Your brakes are already top kit, and the upgrade to AP 6 pots would only be worth while if you are going to get very serious on the track.
To stick up for PSLewis (while he is being quiet ), get rid of the gold wheels!
Superb car!
