Impreza Turbo/WRX STi powered GT Racer - Saker GT
My wife Karen races in the MR2 Challenge (Karen Phillips Racing), and the organiser of the Challenge brought along his new project to one of our race meets recently.
I was pleasantly surprised to see it was Impreza turbo powered! Turns out the car had its first race recently and was leading for much of it against the usual Porsche/Fezza brigade until a brake fault forced retirement. This bodes well for a great season of racing in 2007.
Anyway, I thought you lot may be interested in some details/piccies...
The car was designed in new zealand as an endurance race car. A Dutch company bought rites to productionise it and used the car for a one marque class in the Dutch GT championship.
Dragon Autosports signed a deal to import the cars to the uk. Although
primarily for endurance racing the car can effectively be used for sprint
racing or as a track day toy, or road car!
Car weighs in at 765 kg, distribution 56% rear 44% front
Length 4.05m
Width 1.83m
Height 1.06m
Wheelbase 2.56m
Track front 1.5m, rear 1.48m
Ride height 70mm adjustable
Suspension front and rear unequal wishbones with adjusable moton dampers
Body fibreglass gelcoat finish
Gull wing doors
Engine Subaru STi 2lt[impreza] turbo 320bhp restricted for endurance racing [400bhp for sprint racing] torque 400nm.
Gearbox Subaru [ex impreza 4wd] modified for 2 wheel rear wheel drive
Brakes tarox 6 pot 320mm vented discs with goodridge braided hoses
Wheels 15" x 8" front 15" x 10. rear
Performance subject to gearing with 320bhp engine:
Max speed 160
Mph 0-60 sub 4 secs
I bet it sounds awesome too! Looking forward to seeing/hearing it in action soon...

Strange, I thought there'd have been more interest in a Scoob powered race car...
Maybe I can talk Steve Vince (the importer) into running a car in the Time Attack next year. That might prove very interesting. Can you imagine how fast it would be with a Powerstation tuned motor?

Seems to be a 6 cyl in that one piccie.
In one of the others it seems to have an Impreza TMIC and a chargecooler in another.
...or maybe it's just AN Other intercooler with a piece of cardboard on it to stop the core from being damaged....

Well, they are DIFFERENT cars, after all...
I can confirm that the current ones are STi powered, as I saw it in the flesh at Snetterton recently. Although it was only stationary or moving around in the paddock at the time so I didn't get to hear it at full beans.
