Default td05 18 diy conversion?

I currently have a td05 16 sat here which I still haven't got around to fitting. I've had the bloody thing for months now! I now have a higher power goal though.........

I've just seen some 18g wheels and housings for 150 quid from japan. So is it as simple as swapping these over to get an 18g? Is there something missing as it seems too cheap to be true.

They aren't "straight fit" parts, the bearing housing needs machining, and it would be recommended to have the core assembley balanced once the new wheel is fitted.

Remember these will be running at circa 120,000rpm.

Cheers Mark

Here is the link for the offending item.
eBay.co.uk: 2.25" Turbocharger compressor housing + TD05 18G wheel (item 320037767977 end time 12-Nov-06 01:26:35 GMT)

Why does it need machining exactly? It says for all td05 and upgrade 16g. Just wondering what the differences are.

Andy Forrest charges £550 plus core. You get years guarantee along with a modified wastegate (and a lot of knowledge/experience)..... I fit was my money thats where Id spend it. After Duty etc there will only be about £300 in it and out of that you have to pay for machining and other fettling.

That person being me
Yep I contacted Andy regarding the upgrade from 18g to 20g and it was decided it was better to sell my existing unit and buy a 20g direct.

Stuck with the 18g!!!

It has been done in the past iirc.

Worth a search. Also worthwhile pricing up the cost of machining and balance.
