how fast were F1 cars around the ring?
just watched the vid in blobeye v classic thread and can see why F1 found it too dangerous!
was wondering how the old F1 cars got on, does anyone know any lap times? (assuming the lap was the same as it is now)

Niki Lauda holds the F1 record at 6':58.6" from 1975;I think..... Porsche 956s have been faster though. Have you seen the on-board footage with Derek Bell? Jackie Ickx left him for dead too (into Aremberg?); they were 6':15" or thereabouts!

edited to add: Stefan Bellof is credited with the lap record, set in a 956 at 6':11.13" !

Here's the Derek Bell lap - 110MB download and it's quite slow, but definately worth it...

There's some corners he carries 170mph through where an Impreza would manage 100mph at best - utterly insane!

Just to add in Derek Bells defence, while he does get left behind by Jackie Ickx in the above video, he still got within a second of Stefan Bellofs record time during qualifying.
