Default Tesco 97 Ron

Bloody typical - I've been waiting ages for the local Tesco garage (Ingleby Barwick) to start selling 99 RON. Today I noticed that they finally had the familiar white circle 'Super Unleaded' price up on the board, pulled in and it's 97 RON. It seems weird as there is a nearby Tesco (Marton) which is selling 99 - you'd think it would be easier to supply both with the same fuel grade.

Any thoughts on the 97 stuff? I normally only use 99 or Optimax/V-Max, but I presume this would still be reasonable quality...

What car is it? 97 RON will be fine for UK car. I used it in my UK Classic and Bugeye PPP no problem

I had an interview for a job at shell last week with the Catcracker operations manager (it seperates the crude e.t.c) and we got talking about fuel. He said that tesco fuel is produced by shell. Maybe tesco 99 is the same as v-power cos i can't see tesco producing their own additives. Anyone in the Know?

Tesco 99 ron is produced by Greenergy and contains 5% bio-ethanol according to the tesco website, so not likely to be the same as v-power. Don't know about their other fuels.

Same happened at my local tesco, I was gutted to see it was only the 97 ron stuff. However about a month after the garage switched to 97 ron, it changed to 99 ron. So keep on eye out when you pass as they may change to the good stuff soon.

It's a right drive for me to get some 99ron so I put 97 in and some octane booster. Hopefully the tesco up the road will start putting the 99ron stuff on.

If it's UK spec it should be able to run on 95 RON - any UK market petrol car should be able to run on 95 RON. Higher performance cars will get a performance boost from SUL, though. The ECU should adjust timing, etc, to allow for the grade of fuel.

Bloody hell, I'm turning into PSL
