Question

What would you buy ?
Oct '99 V Saloon, Prodrive 17" Gold alloys, 10 Disc CD, 18000 miles otherwise standard. £17000

Feb 2001 X WRX Saloon, Prodrive bodykit and exhaust, 6 CD, 8000 miles otherwise standard. £18999

I can't decide . I can possibly stretch the extra cash but is it worth it

Slippy

From those 2 cars i'd buy the 01. The 99 seems overpriced and the extra £2k to move to new model would be money well spent IMHO.

If money is important to you, go for the '01 as the price they're asking is closer to it's value than the '99.

If looks are important, go for the '99 as the '01 is a joke.

99 impreza's are mostly in the £11-14k price range in small ads and none-Subaru dealers. At that price they are bargin - at £17k they are not! As for the MY01 - it is worth remembering that there are two banner ads currently running on scoobynet for Brand NEW EU MY02 impreza WRX's (ie the same as a UK car) Eurekar at £17995 with delivery in December I think and Litchfield Imports at £16695 with 3 year warranty. Definately worth bearing in mind as these cars are the same as UK cars, and can be serviced in main dealers (don't believe the dealer horror stories!) and wont be worth much different a couple of years down the line (especially when you consider the trade in prices people have been offered on MY01's - there was one guy a couple of months back who took about £14k from a dealer for his UK MY01).

MY99 will be a little faster as standard. MY01 will handle better. Looks - Up to you to choose! I guess I'd keep my eyes peeled for a nice MY99 for around £12k.

Cool

r u trading summat in with them or paying cash ?

if cash u should be able to do a deal on both those prices ?

certainly the price for the 99 V seems a bit optimistic ? check out the subaru uk web site and do a search across the country's dealers for comparisons.

have u given each model a good test drive as they are different.

i'd go for a good deal on the 01. with a nice set or colour coded headlights it will look transformed.

just seen one at a local dealer with clear side repeaters / colour coded twin headlights and extra front lip ? it looked gr8 ! honest

i'm considering the UK STi although the prices are a bit higher than i was hoping.

The new shape '01 has the prodrive front lip spoiler, sports grille, rear under spoiler, all clear lenses, boost gauge, aero splashguards and some other bits around the headlights and so on. It is WR blue and looks fantastic. I am p/x'ing my 98R with 57K and getting 10,000 for it if I go ahead. In the real world it may be a couple of cars lenghts behind the old model at 100mph from standstill but does it really matter. I can always PPP it.

I much prefer the old shape but at those prices you'd be bonkers to take the 99 over the 01.

Question

Hi mate

Are these cars both on the forecourt? The 'V' reg one sounds like it ought to be - £17K?!? - they're having a laugh! If you can beat down the price nearer to something resembling reality, then it's a matter of personal choice on which one to go for.

Good luck!
Cheers
Kav

Both are on the forecourt. They were offering a reasonable px price for mine so was going to buy from the dealer. Not at 17k though. That is RB5 money. Will probably take the '01.

Wink

i just paid 12 for a 99, standard ish, but with 5 grand to spend on it , BLIMEY it would be nice.

Get the newer shape one, better value.

And do you realy cair what it looks like? yeh we all do a little, but i gigle when i here people talk about "dont like the looks of the new on i dont" buy it to drive hehe and they are most often people who dont own them - sorry haveing a scooby flash back at the boy racer at the car stall in my market hehe oo he made me chortle

(technical information on chortle:

Chortle, not quite a laff, but more than a smirk, often used along side wicked smirks, in appresheation of lack of understandin and ignorence of chgortle target)

That why ive fitted an old lada samara boddy kit on mine, and painted it brown.

Why on earth are you trading in a 98R for a 99V? Just want to waste money? There is peanuts difference between the two.

Otherwise, your choice.

There's no contest - the 01 is the only deal that makes sense. The other price is a tad crazy...

...actually, you asked me what I'd buy...

I'd go for a new EU import from Keyring cars or Litchfield imports and spend the change on modifications...

Nick.

Brendan , the difference is a two year warranty , 40k less miles and a car that is not so tired. But yes, it is over priced. I am doing about 22/23k miles a year so am loath to pile more on. It sounds like most owners on Scoobynet do about a third of that at most, although there is bound to be plenty who do more. I did not intend to buy the '99 , just wanted peoples opinion on the two shapes. I am going to go for the new shape as it feels more grown up, but not the one I was looking at, the ba****ds sold it to someone else this morning. They had been ringing my mobile all morning but I did not have it with me !! Oh well, start looking again.

Go for the 01, if they have already change the lights and added the under spoliers you are looking at nearly £1000 of body kit work!

Get the 01 and join the gang!
