Default td05 turbo?? more power.

hi i have a 94 auto waggon with...

hks induction kit.
full hks system.
wide mouth down pipe decat.
uprated fuel pump.
lightend and blacend pulleys.
scooby ecu by scooby clinic and mapped.running 15 psi
allways run on optimax or v power

i still have the standard td04 turbo i have been told it should be running around 260 bhp . does this sound about ???
anyway im after more power . ie bigger turbo would a td05 make a bigger diffrance when fitted and mapped any one no how much bhp more i would get ??
and are all td05 turbos the same i hurd some people on about td05 16 g and 18 g whats that all about .

thanx chris.

The TD05 pound for pound will give the best bang for buck. It will provide more power than the TD04 at the same boost. Mapping will be necessary to gain the maximum effect but beware supporting mods will be needed i.e fuelling and cooling mods may be necessary. The 16g and 18 g designation is the compressor number, the part of the turbo that compresses the air. The higher the number the bigger the compressor and the more boost it will provide. The downside is it will also be laggier. You may need to get your transmission uprated to handle the torque increase too.

300 is easily attainable with the TD05 and supporting mods. You will be close to that with just a turbo change and nothing else. However i would recommend uprated fuel pump and phase two 440cc injectors unless your car already has them, these will be okay for up to about 350 bhp. Also your car will have the early slanted intercooler which will restrict you, bin it for a later model or an uprated one. Better still go for a frount mounted one. Regarding your gearbox speak to a transmission specialist, better still bin the auto and convert to manual as the auto box will sap some of your power in transmission losses. Auto are also hard to run on rolling roads as they have a tendancy to bog down. As an aside make sure your car is up to the job of handling this conversion as at eleven years old it is no spring chicken and may well have some tired components.

Yep, the cooler the charge the more the power. A good mapper will keep lag to a minimum too.

They are highly respected and I believe have their own intercoolers of the turbulated core variety.

I realise that this is contradictory advice but you can not simply fit the larger turbo... Fitting it can be a bitch anyway, so Id get ScoobyClinic to fit the TD05 and re-map the ScoobyECU on the same day.

If you fit a TD05 onto the car without altering the ECU parameters then youll be asking them to do a damned sight more than re-map it when it gets there. Is that clearer?

as long as the maf is not maxed out it will be fine running a low boost pressure until its remapped.

run the td05 on actuator pressure until you get the fueling and stuff checked.
