Default Vauxhall Astra GSI, What a Prat

Guys.

Right i have had the car a DAY, used a tank of juice Oppps....

I was in ASDA with my Mrs tonight came out and there was a ASTRA next to me, looked ok for a Vauxhall LOL, Didnt think any thing of it put shopping in car and seen two lads power walking to there car (with asda bags),

i Jumped in the car started her and obviously the flat four noise is not that quite, i pulled out they came out the car park like a bat out of hell, he was up my **** from the lights and at the next set of lights he pulled a side and i knew he wanted past me and in my lane so i just put the power down a bit, and he couldnt cut in, obviously with it being damp and i had grip.

He basicly folled me to the by pass, still right on my **** pushing me to go fast and race so i i just flashed the blinker on to say to him well get past then.

Has any one had any experience with one of these cars, whast there perfomrance like agains say a WRX MY03.

Do all these idiots drive liek ******

i think it was gsi

dry day on a straight bit of road once rolling, would have been very clos, just shy of 200bhp as standard but you gonna loose double the power cos of transmission loss so wont be much in it. be carefull though some are running remaps and decat and are pretty quick opnce rolling

As Tidgy says not much in it in a straightline. When my old 2004 WRX was near standard(a couple of years ago) with just a decat and backbox, I came up against one on a dual carrigeway and with us both rolling there was not much in it, Also it was the second day I had my AP 6-pot big brake conversion and the only advantage I got was when I could brake late into a roundabout.

All you can do is try

Just dust him next time, or pull over and pretend to be on your mobile, either way should cut it

Or get some mods on your car. A large bore exhaust and re-map will do for starters.

I think you gave out a mixed message. They were game for a bit of a play, so you bit. You smoked him from the lights, then complained about him wanting another go

I think you said it yourself, you had traction, he didn't.

Vauxhall have never produced a 2.2 turbo (other than diesel). Most likely a 2.0

I've had use of a 2.0 turbo astra and 2.8 turbo vectra(VXR) and neither have felt as shifty or as nimble as my scoob classic (standard lump with exhaust).

I think they like to put big engines with big power but make them smooth + refined for motorway driving. If they focussed on one or the other they'd probably do a better job.

Had one overtake me once - but right up my **** first as if to say come on then. Really wasn't interested as I was tired but whilst thinking about playing the game, the Astra overtook again and made cars coming the other way brake heavily and no one was very impressed.

Looked too much like an accident waiting to happen and I thought it best they have it on their own

My bro has the same engine as the one in that GSI of which you took a picture but in the limited edition 52reg SRI Turbo.
Unmodified at Well Lane it produced 201bhp and off a roundabout had the edge on me in my unmodified MY02 WRX so yeah they are quick for a "hot hatch"...
Not too good from the lights, especially in the wet as they have the traction controly type devicethingummies which "ease" them away to prevent any loss of traction.
But no, he and the chaps he used to share a forum with for such cars do not make a habit of driving like numptys trying to bait Imprezas... You just got a bad egg there, just like there are plenty of boy racer Impreza drivers out there too...

Well I used to own an Astra GSI in Arden blue just like inthe above picture.

The cars are quick especially once you decat and remap. Mine had a modest 241bhp and the traction control tweaked so that it didnt interfere to much.

Against a standard WRX it would have been a close thing, like previous post, the are more refined and dont have such a kick when the turbo comes in.

But get it rolling and its another story. Some of these are now pushing out upto 300+bhp so you have to be aware or just let them have there fun enjoy your own car when you want too and not when someone else trys to force you to drive it.

Very underestimated car was the GSI when it was released and not to bad to own.

But an STI is alot better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've just sold my Astra coupe turbo which had 286bhp.
Was alot quicker once rolling than my standard wrx (not for long)
The handling was very poor even with differnt springs on it
