Another Tyre Problem
Bridgestone Potenza 225/45/r17 MY 05 Got bad tyre wear on the near side front, only on the left hand side of the tyre, any idea's why only this one has worn like this, went to an ATS garage they said might be something up with the geometry of the car or something like that, sounded like he did'nt have a clue, KWIK FIT said the tracking is out and would cost me about £49 to sort it, so anyone has had the same probs or knows what is is can you let me know. Cheers
Mate, this is a common one on the Impreza... i have the same.
Basically you need to get your tyres rotated... corner to corner, to ensure they wear evenly.
I think the reason is because of the hardness of the side wall on the RE070's and the fact that you will make more right turns than you will left (generally driving briskly around roundabouts will accelerate this wear pattern.)
Please feel free to correct me if im wrong...

most cars suffer this problem the main reason being due to grids etc being on the nearside. every time you hit a grid the suspension etc is stressed and over time the tracking is put out of line.
get the tracking sorted asap or face a new tyre and keep away from grids.

If the car has never had the geometry done...pay the 50quid and SORT IT
If the geometry never been touched before, they are more than often than not will be way out, even brand new from the factory. Don't ask why, but I've met enough Subaru owners who had tracking problems on their cars that have never had the geometry touched, only to find it is way out, even on relatively new cars.
FYi. Mine was scrubbing badly in the inner front O/s tyre with 3,000miles. £60 And the tyre wear remained perfectly even for the rest of their life. (12,000miles)

We have loads of Scoobs in with tyre wear probs. Usually tracking/geometry agree with Generic have had them straight from dealers supposed to be set, Subaru settings err on the cautious side. They can vary depending on who is doing the settings, but please dont let K/fit or equiv in with the machines they use. Only use someone with a four wheel laser tracker set them for you. Depends on where you are there should be someone on here that can be recommended in your area.

Mine was done by Chemix.
Verified by an independant garage a few years later and was still correct.
Mind, there is not much you can screw up with Mcpherson struts, is there? Same as a Fiesta.
