my old wrx engine blew a month or so ago and i bought a second hand wrx lump( so i thought) . the old 1 was a 95 import and the second lump came from a 94 import. the second lump is much much slower on pick up and on top speed for some reason?? do you think he could of sold me a 2l turbo engine instead of a wrx??? is there a difference between a wrx and a 2l turbo??? if so how do can you tell??? is there any reason why theres so much pick up diffrence between my old and new engine, if the new 1 is a wrx!!! do you have to get a engine remapped and the ecu reseted after puting it in to get the performance out of it???. help would be appreciated
WTF ? The physical differences are negligable. 1994my wasnt the year that anything changed, but that wouldnt make a difference either; the difference was only in the ECU, the Z4 was massivley superior the the model that it replaced. If you were sold a fit 2000 Turbo; A/B-Series WRX engine, or a C-Series WRX engine (what you had originally), it should produce about 260PS, as it did originally. You are still using the original 1995 Z4 ECU arent you?
yes everything is the same apart from the lump and obviously power.honest to god the power diffrence is unbelievevable. i put my foot down and all that happens is the rev counter goes up fast and the car goes nowhere. the my 94 lump was bare so i transfered everything from my old engine to my new 1.... i dont understand
happens to me when the car is cold... i always warm it up before leaving anywhere but it runs horrible with no power or boost at all untill about 5 mins into a journey, especially from cold... warm isnt too bad...
Remember all Jap imports before 2001 were either STi's or WRX's.
If its out of an import, its at least a WRX.
Would also get a compression check done if the power feels off...?
You have described a clutch fault though. You press the accelerator, it makes a lot of noise, the tacho needles races up but you dont go anywhere.
can i ask so i get a better idea, what actually makes the clutch "slip", as ive never actually seen the inside of a scoob clutch or how it works. im assuming there is a set number of erm cogs that are released from each other when the pedal is pressed, and hence re-attach in a different set up when pressure is released on the pedal... not too bad on engines but never understood the beauty of a clutch as of yet...
andy
p.s. dont take the **** out of me for that, i genuinly dont know
A clutch doesnt mechanically lock; drive is transmitted through pressure. Theres a disc on the end of the engine and a disc on the gearbox and theyre pressed together. When you operate the clutch you release the pressure on the gearbox disc removing drive. If they arent pressing together with sufficient force then they will slip rather than transfer drive.

ah ok ive got a better understanding now. so what causes the lack of pressure between these two plates then? ie the slip of the clutch...

Youre a f*cking imbecile. Your pimped-up car looks like a 15yr old charver's wet dream and you destroyed the engine driving like a ****. The cheap replacement has been fitted by the cheapest mechanic that you can find and you are a technical f*ck-wit.
Great to see the good old scooby community spirit is holding up - it's no wonder so many of us our crossing to the darkside!
Still, look on the bright side - at least we can learn some new
**** words! Doh
i quite like his car needs diff wheels tho have you sorted your prob yet just cos the mechanic said he changed the clutch doesnt mean he did unless you saw it happen lots of dodgy geezas out there i would put money on it being the clutch with that description
